Contra-indications are situations where the medicine should NOT be taken by a person.

It may be that the person is taking a different medication that may interact negatively.

It could also be that the medication could cause an adverse reaction due to a medical condition.

Taking that medicine... there are properties in a given medicine that may run into conflict with another and consequence of that conflict is the contraindication.Or maybe a given physical condition of the one taking the medicine which is inappropriate... or a given vice such as alcohol or cigarette smoking having contrary effect when combined with taking a particular medicine.

well, contra indiacation means an instance where you should not take the drug. for example say, warfarin(a drug) causes pregnancy to be aborted.
then, pregnancy becomes a contra indication to take warfarin.
