Interesting question. It doesn't say "exactly." (It does talk quite a bit about worshiping God, though...whom Christians believe is God.)
The Bible also never says exactly that one should READ the Bible or that it is the sole source of God's Revelation.
This is why tradition and oral history are as much a part of the Christian Faith as is the Bible.
It is completely possible to be a Christian even though one is Bible-less and standing in an open field.

There are many references in the New Testament in which Jesus said..."follow me". (Mt. 4:19, 8:22, Jn.1:43...)
As far as the building of statues, I'd just have to say that people have always made graven images. Be it calves, serpents or whatever else. Jesus did not say to do this. Man took the building of statues upon himself to do.
The Church (as referred to in the N.T.) is actually the gathering of people to praise and worship God. Church services can be held in a cave, a tent, a house, etc... Church is the body of people gathered together, not a structure. .
My small amout of advice.........Relax......Pray for understanding as you study the Bible. It takes time, but God wants us to spend time with Him and His Word.

It doesn't say to build statues and the build churches for him. It does say that he is God's one and only son who died for our sins and whom ever belives in him and repents of there sins will have eternal life with him in Heaven. That is all we need to know to worship him. Who else is worth worshipping. I don't know of anyone else in the Bible that died for me. That is the reason people build churches and come together to learn about praise and worship the Lord together.

It doesn't ask for people to worship him, only his father. It in fact says not to worship him, for he is only a tool of the heavenly father. He only wanted to spread the word to humanity, he never wanted to be worshiped, he choose to die for us to save us as he was already saved, but that didn't mean he wanted us to build statues in his honor.

The bible forbids building statues.
(Exo 34:17 NIV) "Do not make cast idols.
(Lev 19:4 NIV) "'Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.
(Deu 7:5 NIV) This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire.
Read the book of Acts. It will open your eyes to Jesus.
