If you mean upstate NY go to the Lake George, Lake Placid area in the fall. The scenery is stunning. If you mean NYC, try to stay in midtown Manhattan. The hotel will be expensive but a block from Carnegie Hall (as an example) is a grocery store so you don't have to eat out all of the time. From there you can walk most anywhere including the museums and Times Square. If you go to a show or opera, get seats in the balcony. Central Park is a great place to visit. You can get to lower Manhattan by subway which is inexpensive. Leave your car home. Parking can be $35 per day with no in-out. A taxi used to be $35 from LaGuardia. Have a great trip. I was in a timeshare which cost me about $40 per night.

Well, come here and do all of the free things, like walking around Times Square and seeing the stores without BUYING anything there. Also, take the State Island Ferry for free to see the Statue of Liberty and NY harbor. Go to Central Park and have a picnic with sandwiches you bring from a cheap deli. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and see the WTC's ground zero. Walk around Chinatown and Little Italy. Go online and find out about free concerts and other outdoor events going on. There are tons of things to do here which cost no money. Have fun!

if you really want to experience new york, you can first stay at one of the cheaper motels near the airport that u come in on.. not a hotel i mean a motel... then ask at the front desk for bus and train information.. once u locate a bus or train station ask one of the workers for a map and once you have the map the world is your oyster.. your son would enjoy coney island amusement park which is in brooklyn, and easily accessible to the bus and trains .. even going to spend days in manhattan is easily accessible by bus and train just don't stay there. choose your hotels in Queens, that is where the 2 airports are located..it will be much cheaper than manhattan, if u want more ideas email me and i can give u tips... have fun
