Im really sorry to hear about your loss.... Average they say they can live is anywhere from 15 to 30 years... But i dont believe it... And yes if the bird was bonded with your dog... that may have caused it. Birds tend to take the loss of there "mate" very hard. As for falling off the perch at night, tiels are prone to night frights and that shouldn't have had anything to do with it.

The bird was probably sick and weak and that was why it was falling off its perch. I'm sure that losing the border collie didn't help though either. The cockatiel lifespan is about 15 to 20 years, but some don't live that long depending on the stress level and the type of diet and attention they receive. Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you get another cockatiel and dog soom. I'd be sad if my cockatiel died too! :(

Birds can become bonded witha person and a pet and can stop eating when there partner dies, They usually live between 12 and 16 years so yours was reaching the end of it's life span. I know you are very upset at the moment but the best advice I can give you is to go out and find another pet as soon as possible. You will never replace your lost pets but the new one will be a great distraction from your grief.

So sorry for your losses! My cockatiel just turned 16 a few weeks ago. I was told when I originally got him that they can live to be 20, so I know that I'm on borrowed time with him now. My dog and my bird are also buddies and I can totally see how a loss of one would deeply affect the other. Give yourself some grieving time, then share your heart with a new pet or pets.

I think you hit on it. Sorry for your loss.

Suicide by falling, due to a broken heart, with the secondary effect being the broken neck.

Why don't you get a nice new doggy, and forget the bird thing?
