That's what my dad said. I'm not Christian or, Athiest but, I am curious.

I think he's full of it and, I love to prove him wrong. But, I mean things that techinically are mutilating your body.

No, my dad doesn't want me to get a tattoo but, that's beside the point. He was going on about the body is God's temple or... something.

Eh... chances are if I did get a tattoo I'd freak out at the sight of the needle but, still that's beside the point.

dude, in the bible it said you had to sacrifice animals and stuff. Jesus Christ was the offering that cleansed all those rules. So if you are not allowed to get tattoos, well then you better be sacrificing animals. you better grow your beard if you are male. you better wear a vail if your a woman. See what I am getting at. The death and ressurection of Jesus Christ changed all of these laws. he took them upon himself.

Go get a tattoo. Get a full sleeve! Who cares!

Depends on which God you worship. If you are talking about the Christian God then there are many different denominations of the Christian religion. Pick one that believes in "Once saved always saved" get your tattoo or nose ring, and ask for forgiveness from "your" God. Think I`m kidding...have a look at some of the "Modern" Christian Bands. If you don`t want to go that way then you be a Catholic, get a tattoo, climb into the little booth and say "Father I have sinned". After some mumbo jumbo he will absolve you of your sin because he speaks on behalf of God`s voice on earth...the Pope.

There are alot of things these days that are not acceptable to "God`s will", like homosexuality, but people under the influence of Satan (can I hear an AMENNNNN!), change the word of God in order to make these things acceptable to others. This is due to low church attendance which cuts into the churches money.

It is a double standard sort of thing. The Old Testament has the versues about "marking the boby" and alot of churches teach that it is ok, just the same way they teach that you must pay your tithe (10% of your pay); yet, most of these churches claim to be "New Testament" churches so the old laws from the old testament do not apply.

At best the modern christian religion can be confusing...and the Bible states that God is not the author of confusion.

So...who is?

Assuming you're talking about the Judeo-Christian god, I believe there are some prohibitions in the Old Testament about permanent marks on the body. That is, however, the Old Testament, as opposed to the New Testament where Jesus created a new covenant and pulled all the old legalistic stuff down.

Although my guess would be your dad doesn't want you to get a tattoo.

The Bible does not say anything against tattoos but it DOES condemn body mutilation...

I have a tattoo on my ankle and sometimes I wish I had not of gotten it but it has nothing to do with God, I kind of did it to get a rise out of my mom (in my younger years) and now I see I did it for the wrong reason and when I look at it or someone mentions it I feel ashamed.

Hate to break it to you, but your dad is right.

There is one passage that seems to teach against such things, Leviticus chapter 19, verse 28, which says:

"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD."

Besides, God made you beautiful just how you are. Most of the guys I know (who are professional and educated) think tatoos take away from a woman's natural beauty and make her look trashy.

Ask ur dad if he believes that all creation is the work of god? If he says yes he is dead. Coz that means the tatoo machine is also made by god n why wud god make something he dosent want u to use?

If he says no god dosent make everything then ask him who else makes the rest of the stuff. That means someone else is as powerfull as god. If the other entity is as powerful why is he / she / it not god?

If he says devil does these things ask him who made devil? if god made devil, why did he do it if it wasnt for the good of mankind

n now my best arguement ;-)

ask him if people can build grandiose temples / chuches for god why cant u decorate ur body which is again a temple of god??

he he he i think he wont b able to get past that one

in many religions and cultures, tattoos are seen as a nececity. The ancient celts used to tatoo themselves before battle to make themselves appear frightning to their oponents (usually the English). Other cultures see tattoos as a sign of respect towards the gods, and as a beautiful accentuation of the human body.

If god gave us the technology to give ourselves tattoos, he must have meant us to use it and learn from it. if not, why did god(whoever he/she is) create tattoos?

There is a verse in the Bible that says that marking or scarring the body is forbidden. I don't remember where but if you message me, I can get back to you on that.

*edit* nevermind, others have done the work for me. Yay @ no work.

I really think God is too busy to get upset about little crap like that. That is a parent's way of getting you to not do it. Lots of religions do preach that way tho. Do yourself a favor, wait until you are 18, pay for them yourself so you don't have to listen to all the crap.
