I don't think I "hate it", but I could definitely live without it.

I'm not a christian so why should I celebrate it?

It's a huge build up to a huge flop!! Lots of people find the stress of christmas too much to bear. That time of year sees the most suicides.

There is too much pressure on people financially & emotionally. People spend way too much money on things that never get used/played with/appreciated etc.

I can't even say that I am that fussed on receiveing presents for the same reason as above.

I'm not a grumpy bah humbug moan **** or anything like that, I just feel that Birthdays should be celebrated more esp if you are not a christian family. :-)

Yep, whole heatedly, I am with you!
Its not Christmas I hate, its the commercialised hype, starting in the shops any week now!

To the demands of the children, the annoying souls that send cards when I haven't cos they never sent one last year! And fear of spending too much or not enough on gifts.
It goes on and on does nt it!

From this week, I have warned everyone that I shall only buy for my children and their little ones, my elderly mother and my wonderful husband this year.

I have also told almost everyone NOT to send us cards this year, as I would probably not send one in return. The postage money I will have saved, is going to charity! And IF I can convert a lot of others, we may hopefully sacrifice one less tree???

Also in the interest of the environment, I shall not be sending cards to anyone that I can SAY HAPPY XMAS to - workmates, neighbours etc.

Some folks manage to go away to warmer climates or stay in hotels, but I like my home, so I am having OPEN house over Xmas, cold buffet, mince pies and a wee dram!

I shall attend mid night mass this year, and intend to enjoy it for once, shall we start a trend?

Ive asked similar.
I hate xmas, because it brings back many many years of negative emotions, fear lonliness and wating to be somewhere/someone else.

I still dont do xmas, because i just cant take the level of cheer coming from everyone else, i cant stand that they think it is their yearly shot at happpiness, and maybe a quickie with a stranger. To me it defines a society bent on self destruction, where people are complete bstr** 350 days a year, but on your bday/xmas/easter you get a card and some chocolate..... what the hell, its like being nice all the time takes to much effort.

Im told hindu is good in this way, because they treat everyday as special..

I hope again, to maybe one day to be able to not hate this day, because, to be more down than i currently am.. . not so good

I do have ideas for more hollidays th Ymas and Zmas - i mean why not, if wallmart told you too you know you would.. Ymas can be ipod day, and zmas dvd day..

perhaps the key is to gain equanimity, ie, not allow urself to be affected by the behaviour of others, not try to fit other peoples expectations of you. It is all to do with conditioning that we get from childhood, society etc, leave that behind and u may have a new experience of christmas time. U can opt out of the whole thing, u just have to find a place within urself which is ok about doing that

I feel exactly the same as you too, you spend you time trekking round shops buying pressies for people who are either not going to appreciate them or look at the gift, put it to one side with a hard look on their face as if to say, she could have got me something else, I do hate it, not only that you have to spend the whole day with people you either dislike or would rather not be with, you sit eating you meal nearly choking yourself trying to make conversation with these people and knowing damn well they are taking advantage of your kindness yet again, last year we got so sick of it we bought gifts up to the price of £15 for our great niece and nephew, donated £50 to Guide dogs for the blind, told all the adults what we had done on their behalf and spend Christmas day on our own for the first time in 22 years, it was absolute bliss and is exactly as it is going to be every year from now on, it really is worth opting out due to lack of interest.

I hate all that commercial bollocks that goes with it. The fact that Harrods already have their Christmas display up (IN AUGUST FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!) is just stupid. I refuse to think about Christmas until the end of November.
Christmas itself I love!! Getting together with the family and spending time sitting on the floor playing with my kids ALL DAY (I don't usually get the chance, I'm usually running around trying to get stuff done, lol) The whole atmosphere on the day is great!!

My dad hates Christmas. I hate the commercial nature of Christmas -- and Christmas Carols.

But I do love some things... the turkey, the snow, all the food and the time with family (even my crazy family).

I think people would get upset if you didn't do soemthing for them at Christmas. Mabye you should consider giving gifts with more meaning and finding a way for the season to be special for you.

The only "Christian" way out is to become a Jehovah's Witness. No more celebrating Christmas but you can, of course, demand the holiday and Christmas bonuses by declaring them "productivity bonuses".
The only downside is you have to keep going to that Kingdom Hall place and giving them huge chunks of your money.....

On second thoughts..... just buy some cheap presents... ;o)

How can you hate christmas?

It all part of the fun rushing to the shops at last minute and looking at all the lovely christmas trees, lights and decorations!

London has the best decorations i think (mind you i cant compare with other countries cos never been abroad at christmas!)

Christmas is fun!

Makes you feel good and its lovely to give and receive gifts!

Don't you know that Christmas is the best time of year? It's the middle of winter, which alone is suffiicient, and it provides a time out of the banalities of the day to day, if only for a short time. Christmas is weird. Besides, when you've got children as I do it's a wonderful time.
