During the annual festival of Makara Sankranthi, Sabarimala temple authorities are burning camphor on the hills and misguiding the poor devotees that it is makara Jyothi, the divine light coming in the sky by the miracle of lord Ayyappa. They also release an eagle at the same time. The divine light and the eagle appearing on that day is credited to Ayyappa's divine miracle. They bar people from going to the hilly terrain where the camphor is burned and the eagle released from the tree top. Through these man made miracles, the temple authorities have managed to attract millions of devotees to the temple. No one knows exactly how much money the frenzied devotees throw into the temple's cash collection pots. Most of the collection is unaudited and goes to the pockets of members of temple management commitee plus some influential priests who indulge in indecent life styles. Do you think it is right to exploit the religious setntiments of people with such cheap tactics?

No, it's not right to capitalize on people's beliefs like that, but since when has morals interfered with organizations and people from doing what's wrong? It's happened for thousands of years and it will continue happening.

See my dear friend,
Totally your statement is false. yah, may be you are correct about burning of camphor e.t.c but you cannot say that hindu's / for that matter any religion people are fools. the entire human fraternity are fools because they want regular evidences . God can come and show his miracles only once. for that matter primeminister will not visit a particular area for 10- 15 years. then how do you expect that ayyappa will come every year. probably authorities dont want to letdown people hopes and beliefs because it is benefitted in two ways. one the authority is able to make money for the benefit of the temple and for donating and constructing houses for poor and weaker sections of the society. and the second thing is that because of this strong belief some of the peoples diseases may be heeled ( if you see scientifically also it is possible - for snake bite immediately one injection will be given which is just placebo) . whatever you feel i say with full confidence GOD IS THERE. ALL RELIGIONS ARE EQUAL.

I dont know about this case exactly but there are many such Cheaters through out the world not alone in India...
In Srimad Bhagavatam it is said that in Kali Yuga (this Dark age) Religion would become the business of mainly the cheaters...
This would become the age of Cheaters and Cheated ...
See there are people how want to be Cheated... They dont want God, they want miracles .. so that they can somehow exploit those into their sence enjoyment...
They want God Cheap.. So there are Cheaters in name of Religion and God sends these people who want to be cheated to them...
So there will be a swami who will tell you : " you dont have to do any thing, Just give me some money and i will do some puja for you and You will get everything you want" And these people who want to get cheated like that think "why not try this Gamble..After all its just some Hundred Rupees and I actually want a Billions :) " .....

Every one knows that all around the world the Gambling Business cheat people of all their money, but who is stopping them? This Gambling is only different that its going on in name of God !!

The main Cause of this cheating is Ignorance of People.. The Only Solution is that learned people like us must Educate these ignorant people.... But For eduacting you must first learn... I will Strongly recommend that you Read "Bhagavad Gita As It Is" ...

Closing down one temple or punishing few Cheaters will not help... As long as people who want to be cheated are there, Cheaters will always come forward..
