Cheap accommodation in Italy. I haven't laughed so much for a while. Thank you.
If you meant relatively cheap, check out Holiday Inn Express which is surprisingly less expensive than you might think but is a bit sterile. But what's wrong with a bit of tattiness? If you can stand a little culture shock it all adds to the experience.

Not sure if it's still there but stayed in the Youth Hostel there years ago and it was stunning-set on beautiful grounds that you could also camp in while the building itself had spiral staircases and original paintings on the ceilings.
Sure if you contact the YHA they'll be able to tell you if it's still going.

The Firenze youth hostel is a great location at the end of the 17 bus route. It is a great villa just for hostellers.
