It is kind of like an energy transfer whereby you transfer positive energy to certain parts of the body to promote healing.You put your hands on a persons body in serveral positions such as the knees and feet crown of the head etcetera. reikhi is a religious or semi religious practice where in people get there injured or suffering parts healed by the positive energy that they believe that the practitioner has and thus they psychologically feel the power of healing in their body and there are people who administrate it without touching the person also.
This is extreme side of some beliefs in yoga.but basically its the belief of the person that makes him feel better.

It is a form of healing faith..but no different than the laying on of hands and prayers over a sick or dying person that Christians do and believe in.
