Well, the D80 is going to replace the D70s starting next month, and the D2Xs simply replaces the D2X. This makes the actual lineup:
* D50 ($550)
* D70s ($700, while they last)
* D80 ($1000)
* D200 ($1700)
* D2Xs ($4700)
As the price indicates, the D2Xs is the best camera. If you absolutely need something that can shoot 8 frames per second and practically doubles as a bullet proof vest, it's either that or a Canon 1DS Mk 2.
For most people however, the D2Xs wouldn't be the best CHOICE. Look at it this way, if the Nikon D50 does everything you need, why pay more?
I'm a serious hobbyist myself, and I use a D200.

The "best" as rated by features and high price would be the D2Xs. The best for you might be any one of the others, depending on your budget and your needs. I'm looking for the D200 to be Popular Photography's Camera of the Year. For real world shooting for me - a non-pro - it's as good as I want it.
