No Israel cannot defeat Hezbollah under the current conditions. Hezbollah blends into the population and they are not out front standing in a line with uniforms on. I wouldn't say its ethical and some would say its cowardly, but you have to give them credit for being ruthless enough to run behind those women and children. The UN was screaming every time Israel fired at the positions where they were hiding among the women and children. They couldn't even confirm when they killed Hezbollah, Hezbollah denied and stated civilians were killed. I think Lebanon should be held accountable. Give them two choices control Hezbollah, denounce Hezbollah, or suffer the consequences for the actions of Hezbollah.

Israel can't eliminate them if Israel can't catch them. The Hezbollah spent all their time hiding under towels, in mosques, next to children's homes, near hospitals and any other place a frightened jerk could hide.
Israel spent more time trying to find Hezbollah than they did fighting them.
When I was growing up, we had a word for a guy who hid behind a woman's skirts. I don't think it's changed too much since.

No because hezbollah is a political party. It would be like saying could the Republicans eliminate the green party. Sure they could wipe out some of the loudest radicals, but they could never get every one.
Also the more Isreal does that hurts groups like this, the more sympathy they garner and then in turn the more support.

The land of "Israel" should be split in half. The northern half would be Palestine and the southern half Israel.
In the middle occupying Jerusalem would be the new U.N. HQ with a corridor that divides these lands from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. Stationed there should be 200,000 man Rapid Reaction Force capable of delivering a serious smack down to ANYONE in the region that acts out of line.
This solution creates peace in the region and gets the U.N. out of New York .

An idea is impossible to eradicate - it's in the mind, intangible forever existing. Hezbollah is not 1,000 or 10,000 men - it's a mindset that can never be eliminated by anybody.

No, because of the war Israel has only created more terrorists and support for terrorists. This won't end until the United Nations force gets to Lebanon and are given real powers to stop both sides. Israel attacked again this morning, so the UN force may not be effective when they do get there.

No, Israel cannot. They proved that themselves with this fiasco of a war which achieved little except the murder of innocent civilians and the destruction of a peaceful neighbor's infrastructure and economy.
