Since Valium is habit-forming, you might want to try a natural alternative such as Valerian liquid extract. (The liquid works better than the capsule ones.) If you don't want to taste it, just use the dropper to put some in an empty capsule. You can get both products at health food stores. Oh and Valium is actually made from Valium, but it's not habit-forming.
Hope I've helped. =)

It really depends on how many mg each pill is worth.
Regardless, 20-30 pills a day does seem extremely excessive, I'd avise you see a different doctor to the one you're going to- they're simply masking the problem with medication and not solving the real issue at hand.
Take yourself to see a counselor, psychologist or ideally, psychiatrist- they are expensive, but the benefits you reep will be endless.
Valium is HIGHLY addictive and the more you take more frequently, the more your body will become immune to it and hence, the higher dose you will have to take.
Try finding natural ways of managing your anxiety while slowly dulling down the Valium- there are naturopathic medicines for anxiety, yoga, meditation, hypnotisation, tai chi, etc. are all brilliant for helping to bring down anxiety.
Avoid drinking caffeinated drinks, as this will only increase your heart-rate and add to your anxiety- try turning to a healthy, un-processed foods diet, as it has been rumoured that foods that are highly processed can be bad for the body and brain, which really wouldn't help with your anxiety.
Another suggestion is acupuncture- while these natural methods may seem strange and foreign and you might not think they will work, you need to keep in mind that a lot of these methods (in particular, chinese medicines and practises) have been around for hundreds, even thousands of years-- far longer than any of these chemical, highly addictive medicines.
Hope you work through your anxiety.

Twenty to thirty pills or 20-30 mgs? Valium is dispensed in 2, 5 and 10 mg. tablets and they are clearly marked. The average adult dosing (depending upon the severity of symptoms) is 2-10 mgs. 2-4 times per day. A total of 40 mg. per day is considered the highest safe dosage. However, whenever you have questions, ASK YOUR DOCTOR. Valium is habit forming, physically and psychologically, therefore, the lowest effective dosage should be your treatment goal. Good luck.

Valium which is categorized as a benzodiazepine is physically addicting. Withdrawal from the medication quickly can cause some side effects. Also, this medication is detectable on a toxicology screen. The maximum dose for Valium is 30mg in an 8 hour period. Maybe you should check with your doctor and find a medication that treats anxiety without all the side effects or addictive properties......like; paxil, effexor, zoloft, prozac, etc.....

I believe that you are way over prescribed, taking to many valiums will cause deep depression and cause major mood swings. It also isn't good for your body. A valium is about like a woman on birth control pill. It will mess with your hormones.

How many mg per pill are you prescribed ?
Although I am not an M.D. I would suggest you to switch to Xanax (start 2mg/day to be adjusted) for short term and antidepresan medication Lustral , Seroxat in conjunction with psychotherapy. Hospitalization if required for anxiety and preventing benzodiazepin withdrawal while dropping it slowly.

are you talking 20-30 pills or 20-30 mg a day?? That's a big difference - the dosage is fine - the pills may be another story - that can't be good for your liver that's in charge or breaking them down??

If you're anxious enough that you need to be on that much valium, you really need to sort out you life. You shouldn't be getting that stressed, take a break, and chill out.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
