Good question (I'm sure babysitters answers will be more than parents.) Isn't the rate dependent of locality, how late, if lift or taxi home is included.

Also on the 'What qualifications?' question. (are there some?)

I have an additional one: Is it okay to pay a babysitter more than a qualified childminder because the work is in the evening?

And can you still pay more if the babysitter is the childminders daughter? (That's a question of etiquette really.)

If I were you and you wanted to make it a regular thing, I'd say ask for £10.00 for the evening until 12.00am. If it is over that charge an extra £5.00 per hour. Let's face it, the kids are in bed, you sit and watch telly and probably drink tea or something, and unless it deprives you of sleep, should not really be classed per hour.
If it makes the cost of going out too high, no-one will use you more than once, and that's not good business sense is it?
After 12.00 midnight, you are being depived of sleep, and this should be charged for, otherwise, some people may take advantage!
Hope this helps.

I pay my baby sitter £10 a night £15 if I am later than midnight. She only lives next door to me and the kids are usually in bed by the time she comes round. She gets to watch Sky T.V ( + Box office) and mess about on the internet. In fact she is 18 now I think she should be paying me for giving her privicy from her 2 brothers.

I'll pay my sitter £20 a night and also pay the extra for her taxi home as i hate to think of her walking home late at night even though she only lives a few minutes away

I am not sure what you mean by qualified baby sitter but you should be able to get £5 per hour.
