When the morning gets chilly and dewy but not frosty, you need to find a field that has had horses in it at some time as this seems to increase the mushrooms that grow there. Puffballs are nice too taste like slightly stronger mushrooms and one when sliced will feed a number of people

About October. I used to live there. I now live in NZ where the seasons are 6 months out of phase with them. Here you start picking them in April. Even just outside London we used to get a good feed.

Mushrooms are mostly around in the autumn due to the weather been damp for them to thrive. Be very careful what you are picking and if you are not sure do not eat it.
