Has anyone ever stopped to think that no religion has it all right but no religion has everything wrong? All religions share the same basic ideals and morals. Most religions share the idea there is one almighty power over the universe. So why do we argue. Why do we allow petty beliefs to cause wars and insanity? I used to be Chrisitan but I found that Christians are self-rightous. I believe the catholic church and islamic religion both created views for self gain of governing control.
Why doesn't anyone else think about these things or believe this? Why does every religion think they have it flawlessly right? It's disturbing. Life is about living, about finding love and about learning what love is and what life means. Nothing more. So why must we put ourselves to fight when we should be searching for meaning to life. Knowledge, understanding, love, compassion. These are what makes life. Why are so many destroying these things just to prove they're religion is right?

You're right. It would seem that there are a lot of underlying similarities between religions: emphasis on love, guidelines for morality, definitions of good and evil, concepts of afterlife. The ability to inspire people to acts of great mercy, and acts of great destruction.

People (let's talk about people and not God) want to prove other people are wrong because it's an ego defense. You feel better about yourself when you are right and other people are wrong. Religion is a convenient way to paste this in public space.

As for who has the "right" religion - who knows? Nobody knows for sure, or else they'd be God; that's why it's called faith, and why I prefer to say I have a faith rather than a religion. For me personally, I've chosen to follow the life, death and teachings of Jesus Christ, who I consider to be the most amazing man who ever lived. I do so knowing that I could be "wrong", but I'm willing to take a risk for the sake of learning and leading a fulfilling and meaningful life. So far in my understanding, Jesus was knowledge, understanding, love and compassion. And Jesus was life.

At the end of the day, it will be God who decides who was right or wrong, if there is such a thing. But it's definitely human nature to want to play at being God, which is probably why we're all on this website answering questions ... :)

I do believe this. I think that our lives are worth living. We really do only have a short time here, and I think it should be spent doing what makes you happy, and surrounding yourself with the people you care about.

Essentially, most religions are the same at their core. And think that shows how much people really are alike in this world. For the most part, we all believe in the same things, and want the same thing out of life. Others, like myself, find that there's no possibly way to know for sure what exists beyond this life until we actually get there. But that doesn't stop me from enjoying my life and making the most of it and being a good person.

Life would be easier if everyone could recognize similarities instead of differences.

Of course we all have something right. I have belonged to six different Christian denominations. All of them have the same core beliefs...but on the fringes of that belief there are differences. And that is what gets us in trouble...people of those denominations look at those differences and argue about that instead of looking at how they are alike. It would be so much better if people saw how they are alike & that the way they express their beliefs & faith are part of a total overall way of expressing faith. There is no one right way & the other person's way just may not be wrong. I think God is much bigger than our petty differences.

Now I will go one step further...there is one God & only one God. He is the God that created the universe, our solar system, our earth & all that is in it. That includes everybody. God is the God of all the religions by whatever name they call him. For instance, God, Allah, Great Spirit, or what other name are all names for the same God. One God...different names meaning God. And these also have differences & similarities. Once everyone realizes that, perhaps there can be peace on earth.

I know a lot of people are going to disagree with that...but think about it. Does that not make sense? My studies indicate that it does. Pax, Paix, Peace...different names for the same thing.

Peace to all...Nala

For many years I have been a kooky Zen-Christian-Buddhist-Taoist.
All the religions and philosophies that I have studied extensively, seem to blend together into a harmonious symphany of truth. They fit together perfectly like the peices in a jigsaw puzzle. I am somewhat of an outcast in religious circles because of it. However, I have observed that the only people who get angry, judgemental, and critical of other beliefs are the ones who have not studied other beliefs. The people who seem to except all teachings as God inspired are the ones who are very spiritually advanced, and actually live the life of love, acceptance, faith, beauty, and graceful thanksgiving.

Strangley enough, the people who are the most condemning and judgmental cannot get their prayers answered. They call in the middle of the night for effective prayer in a crisis.

I have stopped to think about that. I have thought about it at length. And I have found it to be untrue.

Many religions share the idea that there is one almight power in the universe, but only one religion that I know of--the true religion--shows how that almighty power came to earth to offer salvation to human beings with his own blood.

So things that may appear to be "the same" in general ways are radically different in this one specific way.

If you allowed PEOPLE to lead you away from Christ, brother, that is just sad. Christians are self-righteous, and so you abandoned your savior? Wow, since when are a few human beings' attitudes more important than your eternal soul?

I have thought like u. Although I am a firm believer of Islam, I have always believed that all religions, especially christianity, judaism and even buddhism has something true in it. There is God, and all religions speak of love faith and knowledge. So it is not amazing, that all religions have truth in them, but from a different perspective. Ur thinking is noble and keep up ur thoughts. Atheism is not right, and as long as u have faith god shall reward u. peace upon u.

I think your issue is with Jesus Christ, not with people or religions.

Jesus said, "..no man comes to the Father but through me". Pretty convincing reason to be a Christian, no.

And why trust the Bible over other books? Because it is 1/3 prophecy. Specific, world changing prophetic events surround people, nations, Israel, Jerusalem. No other book has that claim.

Why does the Christian faith believe they have it right?

Because God says so...
