Well your first mistake is thinking that persuasion is the key. It's not. The key for most people is respect and understanding. Take the time to sit back and watch and learn who you are dealing with and the best way to influence them. Many younger people are intimidated when they are leading older people. Because of this they make rash decisions, become "bossy", and can seem unreasonable and unfair. Commanding respect means giving it. Another thing about the young leading the old is that they are too afraid of being seen as weak. Fear is a bigger weakness than anything. Good luck, I hope this helped.

You can't
Your job as a leader is to best relate to your staff in order to maximize their productivity. You may have to work with them in order to share the common goal. Once you respect the fact that older people have more work and life experience than you then not only will you learn from them but they will be eager to get the job done - on equal terms.

It's done by choice and respect.

I worked with a 15 year old girl singer and let her be the boss most of the time as it was her career.

I also worked at a company in which my boss, who hired me, was a woman half my age.

That's a good question. I think that that is one of the country's problems. Once the older generation dies out, then the more enlightened ones can move forward and get things into shape. lol
