How do you protect your son from getting trapped into fatherhood without letting him know his mother trapped you into fatherhood? My sons mother and i do get along now and i dont want her to be scapegoated or mentioned in any way in reference to the conversation .He has a few years to grow up before he starts dating .I feel if i keep drubbing about him using a condom everytime he has sex with a woman at too early of an age he might put two and two together and realize how he came to be , I feel if i dont educate him he is bound for the same result as me being trapped into fatherhood . I love my son very much and i cant seem to figure away to balance the priorties .Any constructive advice would be much appreciated .

I would make it a story about a good friend who you knew in school. A sad story about how fatherhood made it so that you guys didn't get to hang out anymore and how miserable your friend was. Something like that should hit a note with a teen who has many friendships that he couldn't imagine living without.

How about this for some constructive advice...take responsibility for your own actions and stop moaning about how you were trapped into fatherhood. Any man who has unprotected sex should be smart enough to know there is a chance for pregnancy. If not, he's too stupid to be having sex in the first place. DO NOT talk to your son at all until you grow up and realize you trapped yourself. Moron.

Do not lie to your son. If he asks, be honest with him, make sure he knows he was the best thing that came from that relationship with his mom. Don't bad mouth her to your son.

As for the sex ed., as soon as he is talking about girls, or girls are calling, have the talk, buy the books (age appropriate). And let him know you will answer any question he has honestly.

I remember when my boys started dating, hanging out with girls, as they were walking out the door I would say "take a raincoat", and that was my subtle reminder of if you are doing it, cover it!
