And why will no one speak out strongly and decisively against it? It seems that nearly everyone practices this sin, some to a great extent and it is almost completely socially accepted. The Bible speaks out against it many times however, calls for the death penalty for those that practice it and warns they will not inherit the Kingdom of God. Shouldn't Christians be doing far more to oppose and speak out against this sin which has become an epidemic?

While sex is indeed a natural bodily function, the primary purpose is for procreation not recreation. There is a time and place for everything and the only correct and moral context that sex can occur is within a monogmous heterosexual marriage. Anything else is both moral depravity, a corruption of the sex act itself and a serious sin for which God explicity singled out as one that will keep people out of Heaven.

Sex is suppose to be for those who are married......(Man or Woman)
But with this being a Man's world over time Man has influenced the Laws of what is acceptable for Sex.....Hence the Man can have Sex before Marriage and not have anyone look at him like he is in the wrong.......But woman can not have Sex before marriage because if she does then people Men and Women will look down their noses at her.......the Double Standard for Man and Woman
But here is a verse that holds true to what I'm saying

1st.Cor......7:1
just read this and you will see what I'm saying
Also Paul said that Men should run from Youthful Lust thus meaning not to have Sex before Marriage

it's NOT socially accepted.
And yes they should be speaking out against this sin. But you must remember that not everyone is christian so therefore you can't put your religious beliefs on the shoulders of other people. Is the "death penalty" used in the old testament only? I remember hearing it was stoning. But those old traditions have been changed for christians. Seems as though some other religions though have hung on to the old beliefs..

Sex was for procreation and to be done thru marriage.

definite, they're nevertheless considered sins. God's ideas by no skill replace. What he considered as incorrect thousands of years in the past he nevertheless perspectives as incorrect on the prompt. Hebrews 13:4 says, "enable marriage be honorable between all, and the marriage mattress be without defilement, for God will choose fornicators and adulterers." So even in the first century, even as the Mosaic regulation grow to be no longer in effect, Paul made sparkling that God perspectives fornication and adultery as incorrect and a grave sin.

It goes through cycles. Everybody was up tight in the Victorian days. In the 50's the rebels practiced freedom but th "good kids" would not accept it. It's changing fast now, part of a cycle that allows more freedom and independence to women. Our use of sex in advertizing is making it cheap, and distastful. Watch for the cycle to swing back when people want serious relatioinships. Other parts of the world see it different. Europe has been quite loose, and do not get hung up on it. Asians are still quite traditional. The current trends will reverse and swing back as we get tired of advertising and hedonism, and concentrate on more dependable ways of living which are fun and rewarding. God Bless.

Because this is satans world; God created it but satan rules it. You could look at it as a test field the things we come up against such as sex, drugs, money, hatred due to color, sexual preference, and religion. Jesus says in Matthew 7:13 enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are MANY who go through it .14 How narrow the gate and difficult the road that leads to life ; and FEW find it. Your answer is in the scripture above. All of that stuff is a test we are to take up our cross and deny ourselves and live for Christ. And yes get His word out

Some churches and denominations don't teach the plan of salvation. They just have mandatory communion. People in those congreations are ignorant of the Bible and no better off than people on the street. Their priests are guilty of the most hideous crimes - sodomy, child molestation, etc. If they would be sent to prison, the common criminals would judge them, rape them and then kill them becuse all mankind is born with a conscienitous which tells them right from wrong.

It's all about the pleasure!!!!!!

Our lives should be our example.

Harping on the matter only makes it worse usually. People, let alone children, are more prone to do what they are told not to, for some reason.... Since the beginning of the Human Race!

How about parents educating their children properly?
How leading & guiding them to make the right choice?
Be loving & understanding when they do mess up, so this way they can learn & make the choice not to for themselves.

Be leader, not a preacher.... only people that go to church listen, strange enough some them are sleeping.... but whatever.

At the church I attend the sin of fornication is preached against. As my Pastor says "It's not in God's will for your life for you to be a 'Christian' fornicator!".

But to answer you first question, I imagine that this sin is so socially accepted because most people can relate to this area of temptation and so they are not as quick to judge other people for committing it as they would be for engaging in other sins like practicing a homosexual lifestyle or committing murder. It seems like it is the same with other "common" sins like gossiping which is also preached against at the church I attend. http://www.alcf.net

Not only have people become immune to God, they have lost all self-respect. I find nothing more degrading than to give ALL of yourself to someone who doesn't deserve it.
It is just too socially acceptable for 10 year old girls to be scantilly dressed with their mother's approval. That's the beginning.
How do they expect the guys to react to that.
No self respect, dignity or integrity.

GREAT QUESTION and sadly the answers you are getting reflect the deviant society we live in. No one seems to think it is bad. God didn't change the commandments to fit the morals of 2006. We should live our life in 2006 according to his time tested rules for us. Thou shalt not kill - thou shalt not steal, honor your mother and father - he got it right. Why is adultery and fornication so acceptable - it is a ME generation.
We did not raise our kids like this and everyone thinks my kids are so great. VALUES AND MORALS - no secret.
