The 'funny bone' is actually the Ulnar Nerve. When you hit a nerve it is painful and usually followed by a period of tingling and other strange/'funny' sensations known as Paresthesias.

the bone that is hit is called the Humerus. although it isnt "humorous" its just the silly nickname it got. not too funny, huh?
