I am thinking about having a toenail surgically removed and was hoping that someone who has already had this procedure done could share their experience. I was also wondering how their toe now looks without the nail and how much did the procedure cost.

I've never had complete toe nail removal. But I did have a partial removal, due to an ingrown toe nail. My nail grew back exactly the same, if not healthier. Just make sure they don't kill the root, because when that's the case, the nail doesn't grow back at all.

My sister had complete toe nail removal and it grew back a lot healthier.

My husband has had his toenail removed twice. His doctor did it right in the doctors office,no surgeon required. You will want to wear loose fitting shoes for awhile. It will take it about 6 months or so to grow clear back. They deaden it first and it takes about 5 minutes to do the whole procedure. They cut it down the middle clear to the cuticle and the took pliers and ripped each half off. He had a nail fungus the first time and dropped something heavy on it the second time. He has also had a finger nail removed because he tried to run it through the snow blower. My husband is a big baby when it comes to pain and if he is willing to do it more than once it can't be that bad. You'll do fine. Good Luck!

I had surgery on my toenail for severely incurvated big toe. My nail fell off and a new one grew in, but it's deformed..it's thick and looks totally different from my nail on the other foot. I can't wear open toed shoes now. I have a friend who had a nail removed and hers never grew back..it's a little funkly looking, but she's already put a fake nail on and it didn't look to bad..lol
I would try to prevent having it removed if I was you...

I don't know what type of person you are but I would half to be put to sleep for this operation. I'm almost sick just by reading it.

So if you can ask to be put to sleep before any of these other steps take place because dam. I feel light headed.

Good luck.
