Has anyone ever applied job with SFPD? I've done my background interview 2 weeks ago and now they schedule me for medical exam, does that mean I passed the background check? Or they tend to do that concurrently. (I most worry they turn me down because of my speeding ticket, I got 2 in 3 years.)

With the cost involved with medical screenings it is usually a good sign that your moving in the right direction.

If all you have is a speeding ticket against you that is something akin to a parking ticket, not a felony or a crime against humanity.

Are you related to anyone in the police department or sister organizations? If not the answer is no.
I hope if you get the job, that you treat it as a learning experience. It will teach you more than any sociology course on sub-cultures any ten courses on the cop's sub-culture.
However, very few people can make that field a career, if after the time you need, you suddenly feel that have to get out of the business. Do it, but never look back in terms of rejoining. It is a brutal job.
But sometimes you have to walk into the animals cage to know him.

They wouldn't move you on to the next phase of the hiring process if you hadn't passed the previous one. If they thought you had character issues, they wouldn't spend the money to have you checked out medically. It'd be like buying rims for a car that doesn't run.
