just seems to me that the cases of clergymen either being caught up choirboys or up each other is on an annual increase, which just makes religion even more laughable now than it ever has.

The church has long been a safe haven for paedophiles, who should not be confused with gay men, who also found safety from the outside world within the church.
The % of paedophiles in the 'straight' population is the same % in the gay community.
These paedophiles are often the victims of such abuse as children, so sexual orientation doesn't come into it. It's an act of control & violence.

Catholic priest pedophiles = religion? Methinks not. It's not religion that's the problem, religion unites and comforts people. It's pedophilia, and to a lesser extent, monastic life, these two things are the problem. Remember, not all pedophiles are priests, and not all priests are pedophiles. However, it makes sense to eliminate monastic life and let the priests marry, I think we'd have less cases of pedophilia that way.
