I used to work at a shelter, working nights alone. I dound that when ever I put on the radio to the classical station, they would all calm down.

I also worked with the cats at night, specifically the sick ones. They would cry for hours. I experiemented with music, radio, etc. Nothing worked. So one night I sat in their room and sang "Silent Night" and "O Holy Night". They all quieted down, and curled up quietly for the first time in months. I told the other staff about it, no one believed me. Until I asked for a night off, and someone took my shift. She heard them crying, and tried singing for them. They all calmed right down, and didn't cry at all for the rest of the night.

Studies have shown that melodic classical music calms down kennels.

Apparently even dogs have a limited tolerance for Wagner

Heavy metal, country, and jazz had no calming effects.

Actually, I had a rescue who'd bark incessantly in her crate in the car, and one day I put a Michael McDonald tape (obviously an old one) in and she never made another sound! As long as he was on once we were moving she was fine. I tried the radio, barking. My singing, let's not go there. Michael - silence. I wonder if he'd appreciate that?

My truck is a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, and my motor vehicle (which receives 3 cases the gas mileage of the truck) is a 2006 Acura RSX. My canine are both medium-great mutts about 50-60 kilos. One is a lab blend and the different is a golden retriever blend. i love rock and classic rock yet each now and then take heed to different sorts of song. i don't think of i will ever have a small canine.

Having 7 dogs at present, I can say that they do like music. Mine especially like it when I sing....probably because they know I am in a good mood..LOL!
