You know, you can say yes today, but not get married for 3 or 4 years. Many people have long engagements, especially if they have only dated for a short time.
If you're not sure you want to say yes, don't. This is something serious that is being asked of you, and you don't want to say something just because you're afraid of hurting his feelings.

I think if you love him enough to marry him just not right now say yes but tell him you would like to wait for a while. you can be engaged for a while before you have to get married

I'm not certain why you would hesitate if you want to marry him.
Something if making you hold back, you need to ask yourself why you feel the time isn't right. If that reason is trust, etc, then you need to walk away from the relationship.
If it's just because you are scared of change, then jump in and enjoy the ride.

if your over 25 or have already been married go for it, if you under 25 wait a little longer and like somebody already said if your not sure say yes and make it a long engagement until your ready.

I think if you were REALLY sure you wanted to get married, you would have said yes straight away.
You could still give him an answer and then ask him if you could wait a couple of years. However, if you continue to put it off, then you really aren't ready to get married.

when you feel that you want to spend the rest of your life with him then say yes. tell him that you want to stay engaged for a while and the ceremonies reserved for the perfect time. tell him you want to prepare for the wedding financially and emotionally so the ring and the promise will suffice for now
