Shadow and proportions. Length of the hammer length of hammer shadow and length of shadow of building. It would be allot easier and more accurate to buy a tape measure.

hit the building with the hammer many times so that the building falls. then measure the length.

Two ways.
One: Go to the top and drop the hammer and time it's descent.
Two: Find the owner of the building and say, "I'll give you this hammer if you'll tell me how tall your building is."
