Any time from 37-40 weeks is considered normal. So if the say 6 weeks early, it's 6 weeks before the expected 40 week date but it's only 2 weeks before the 37 weeks cutoff for full term. The baby may be a little small, probably somewhere between 4and 6 pounds, unless mom is diabetic or has some other things going on. 2 weeks early isn't bad, and the baby should be just fine. He may need to go into an intermediate or intensive care nursery because he's early, just because of hospital protocol, to keep an eye on him. Good luck and congrats!

I know a guy who was born more than 6 weeks early due to the mom's health. He weighed 2 pounds and 15 ounces. He stayed in the hospital for 2 months, but is now 21 years old and just got out of a stint in the Army, (including Iraq for a year). So don't worry, things can go wrong, but the doctors really do a wonderful job at taking care of those premeeies.

My daughter was born 10 weeks early due to health problems of mine. She weighed 3 lbs. 6 oz. and 19 in. long she spent 2 months in the hospital due to apnea a sleeping disorder. She is now 14 months old and perfectly healthy. It is very scary in the beginning but he should be fine. There were other babies in the hospital with my baby that were born 3 months early and went home before mine. All babies are different but all should be well with your grandson. good luck and congratulations on being a grandparent.

mom says sister grow to be born 6 weeks/7 weeks to early and not something exceeded off to her, no incubator, no advance lighting fixtures (that's what mom calls the warming lighting fixtures on the flamboyant infant table) her abcore rankings have been 10, no longer something the priority in any respect along with her, only little or no, born at 4.5 kilos all the way down to 3.seventy 5 released a 4.0 in only 2 days, reason mom had different infants and knew what she grow to be doing, she mentions that nursing grow to be a sprint bit a undertaking reason her mouth grow to be so little or no, she might in basic terms take the top of the nipple and not the excellent areola, which brought about mom some great discomfort, yet in time sissy discovered and grew and mom toughened up.

My mom was born 8 weeks early 60 years ago. She only weighed 2 lbs 13 oz. She has never been sick a day in her life. You should have nothing to fear.

My, now 43yr old, brother was born that early. He had no major health issues but was kept in the hospital for three weeks because his lungs weren't developed completely and they just wanted to be very sure he was ok.

As I said, he's now 43yrs old and just fine.

But I also have a friend who was born that early and she has chronic bronchitis, athma and other lung issues, she's now 32yrs old.
