Only if after high school is also after the idiot currently sitting in the White House is gone. Bush doesn't care about the troops, they ain't rich. As long as idiot-boy controls the military, you are better off changing bed-pans at an AIDS hospital.

Military service is a good choice for a career. What I would like you to think about though is what kind of job or career would you like after you leave the military. If you have a general idea of a career is the army going to give you training in that field? Talk to recruiters in all branches of the military and see who can offer you what you will need for your future needs. Remember these recruiters are the "salesmen/saleswomen" for the branch they belong. Ask very specific questions and don't be sold on the first thing they tell you. Go on line and do research on each branches websites. Right now the Army and Marines will take anyone because they have the immediate needs for people. The Navy and Air Force are more selective in who they are taking (test scores do matter) but they may have the training you will need for a career outside of the military. Good Luck.

Joining after high school is smart. Why?
1)If you're not ready for college, take 2-3 years off, get away from your parents, learn a skill, go see a foreign country, get paid (pay is OK, it's not great, you'll save a lot unless you drink) and then ETS and go to college with the GI Bill, a lot of world experiences, and a paid off car.
2)If you like it, you'll stay in for a career like I did, if you put some effort into EarmyU (most don't) you can retire at 37-38 with a degree and a crapload of management experience.
3)You can use your first enlistment as a stepping stone for Troops to Teachers (google), or Green to Gold, ROTC.. etc

Go for it. It's a great life and it offers you a chance to mature. You'll be with people from all walks of life, you'll learn all about other parts of your country and you will learn to understand how your Army friends' economic level, religion and local customs have contributed to what and who they are.
Don't listen to the people who tell you that you are going to fight Bush's war. It is not Bush's war, it's America's war. Bush can't start a war, that's the job of our Congress. And after it has started if it turns out sad, those Congress guys who gave permission can't claim they were not a part of the starting.
While you are in the Army, plan on what you are going to do when your tour is over. Think about college or some productive occupation. The benefits you will be entitled to are great, go get them, they are yours, you earned them.

I would never recommend the army to anyone. Often very young adults join the military because there aren't many opportunities for them when they leave high school - especially when they are poor or have bad parents who do not encourage the furtherance of their children's education. Eighteen to twenty year-olds often join the military also because they see it as a way to establish their full social identity as a man. But militaries give the youth something that he hadn't considered: forced, complete acquiescence. The soldier is supposed to do what he's told, not to really think. (The word infantry comes from the subservient, order-taking role of the soldier, as an "infant".) To join the military is to potentially give your life and potentially also incur the most unimaginable suffering for something that, in a historical sense, is impossible to justify. Millions of Nazis gave their lives in World War Two. For what? Over fifty-seven thousand Americans died in the war in Vietnam, and hundreds of thousands were psychologically and physically harmed from their experience in that historically-hard-to-justify war. You can join. I just hope you live, and if you don't live, that you died for something worthwhile.

I wish I would have done it out of high school. I think if your serious about it, you should talk to your local recruiter and see what it has to offer you, and what you have to offer. You can travel all over the world, meet alot of new friends, get paid very well, and it will be an experience your wont forget. I have friends who are in the marines and army reserve, both who went to Iraq these past couple years, and who both made it out fortunately enough to be with their family. Being in the service doesnt exactly mean you'd be on the front lines of any war, its the job and career path that you chose. But remember its your decision and if its what you think youd be good at, go for it because they will teach you great things........Good luck with your future.

I think joining the military is a wonderful choice, that is if that is what you want. Service to your country is one of the greatest things I think a young person can do and the oppertunities are endless with what you can do not to mention you can be retired at a very young age. I wish you the best in whatever you decide, but few give something to a country that gives them so much back in return. Oh for the liberals that enjoy what all servicemen and women have given them, your welcome.

If you are ready to die for Bush ideology of protecting American rights thousand miles far from your homeland, answer is : YES.
Ask yourself why do you want to join army, is it Money or just following crowd.
My advice: Live your life at best, enjoy your only opportunity to spend your best time on this planet. Don't finish your life like number n some country that doesn't have anything to do with you or your family. There is one proverb that goes something like this:
For idols, only fools dies.

Don’t you like ‘life’? Why would you want to risk being sent to Iraq, where people are trying to kill you? Ask the parents of the more than 2,500 military personnel killed in Iraq whether they think you should join the Army whilst George W. Bush is the US President.
You only get one chance at life!… Don’t allow Bush to throw it away for nothing!!!
