Hey guys about a month ago I started getting a little bit of heel pain that would come on for an hour or so and then leave. I only had a few attacks before, but since last night my heel has been hurting a lot whenever I walk on it. It just came on suddenly, it's not from exercise or anything like that. What could cause this? thanks

There is no easy answer - it could be as simple as the shoes you wear, to as complicated as some injury you might have sustained. There are a few things you can do. First off, look at the shoes you normally wear - do they support your foot well? do they provide enough support for your ankle? how old are they and have they seen better days? Sometimes its simply because a shoe has lost its value and needs to be replaced. Secondly, (assuming the shoes are in decent condition) you can go out to Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or any drugstore and look for orthotics (Dr. Scholl's footpads, etc.). What your looking for would be a heel cup and/or an arch support appliance that will fit in your shoe, but not hinder movement. You can also try a footpad (e.g. Dr. Scholl's gel insoles) that will help absorb the impact of your step since the pain generally comes from placing your foot on the ground and hitting it with your heel as you roll through your step. Finally, if the first two don't work or you want a professional, tailored opinion - you can make an appointment with a podiatrist. A physician who specializes in the care of feet and all aspects of them. He or she may advise certain changes or even prescribe a temporary medicine to help alleviate the pain.

I have a disability and tried the doctor School's and they worked. I seen I walked on my heels by their machine. I walked around the corner to get the cheaper doctor School's for $10 for heel pain(because I did not want to invest $50 in something that did not work). My husband uses the more expensive ones at work and they help. Most Walmarts have the machine near the pharmacy area.

Most likely it is plantar fascitis or heel spurs. But that is usually from overuse--running, jumping, being on your feet too much in hard shoes, etc.

If this does not apply to you then there are more rare causes of heel pain such as certain forms of arthritis. So if it does not get better soon see a doctor.
