Banana's dont ripen in the fridge. They are better left out in a cupboard or a fruit bowl. There is nothing wrong with refrigerating them tho. It wont hurt them in any way. For some reason though the SKINS ripen faster when they are in the fridge.
Not the fruit on the inside.
If u like them in the fridge (i do too) put them in there. But if the skins are black it doesnt mean they are over ripe or going rotten. Just make sure u eat them within just over a week of putting them in the fridge.

Perhaps the cold forces the banana to release chemicals that retain it's ripeness? That's the best thing I can think of. Makes sense too. What I do is I keep them at room temperature until they're ripe. Then I peel two or three, slice them, put them on a little plate, then put it in the fridge for an hour. Then I take it out and eat it with a fork! I believe the cold brings out the sugars more.

Keeping them in a bag or near apples (apples give off a gas that causes other fruits and veggies to ripen quicker) in the refrigerator will make them ripen faster but if you keep them separate from other ripening fruits and veggies and do not put them in a bag they should ripen slower in the refrigerator.

Bananas are climacteric fruit. They ripen with naturally emitted (selt-emitted) gases (ethylene). If you keep them in a closed compartment, the gases build up faster in their immediate surroundings and they ripen even faster than they would otherwise (cold or not). So don't keep bananas in any type of closed environment unless you want them to turn brown REAL fast.

What you can do is ripen them first by leaving them sitting out and when you get ready for one pop it in the frig for an hour and then eat it. That way you'll have a yellow banana and it'll also be cold. Hmmm, good idea i must say so myself.

Bananas are a tropical fruit and designed to be refrigerated. They are reacting the cold and starting to spoil.

When bananas are shipped they are green and refrigerated . If you keep them in the lower part of your fridge in a drawer they will keep a lot longer .

I dont really know the anwer to your question, but try freezing a banana. I love bananas! If you put them in the freezer they will turn black and when you try to peel them it will be difficult, but they are sooo sweet and awesome when they are frozen.
