I want to put it to people that the goals of scientists and the beliefs of religious people may not be incompatible.

Check out the link.

Whyaskdon declined to view, but I suggested to him that it would not disprove any of his beliefs, and nor does it try to do so.

It is a theory, but I am sick of seeing theory used as a negative word. It is JUST a theory. Yep, but a good one, and brilliantly explained.

Science and religion need not be opposed.

I suggested to don, that if he wanted it to, it could suggest that God is actually the 10th dimension, if he is the source, and if he is everywhere at once, this fits the bill.

As a sweetener, if that is correct, imagine just how magnificent He would look if we could see Him.

Quasar, Im not seeking to prove anything. It is my way of trying to get each side to realise they need not be in such drect and fruitless opposition.

It's a very interesting link but I'll have to disagree with you regarding certain things. I don't think the problem with the idea of god is justifying the fact that he's everywhere or that everything originated from him. We say the big bang was the beginning of our universe and energy is everywhere, it's the source of everything. If you want to redefine the word god to mean something that's the building material of the universe (and hence is everywhere) then I'll believe in god since I believe there is such a thing. However, the problem arises with the concept of god's consciousness and the other properties different religions give to him which are not logical. I mean, if god is the 10th dimension like you say, why would people worship a dimension? Why would they pray to it? Why would they say he's love and peace, and he's always there for you when you need him....etc.
To put it simply, if you want to redefine god, you need to requestion people's faith, because when that happens I might become the believer and believers may become atheists.....

*** I know you're not trying to prove anything and I totally agree that the two sides shouldn't be in such direct opposition. The problem is that people hate change and hate things they don't understand or that don't go with their beliefs......

First of all, stop pandering to Don. He is skating the line of hate speech with his rhetoric.

Second of all, your link may be a violation of the TOS for Yahoo! if the site which hosts the video phishes for e-mail by tagging the accounts of visitors to the site. If I were you, you should consider insuring that the host site does not do so before posting this link as a question.

Third of all, I have not looked, nor will I. Partly to protect my computer and my account from spam. Partly because the account I am currently working from does not have speakers for audio playback.

I never did find science and religion to be incompatible. Heck, Albert Einstein believed in God, that's good enough for me!
