The one who said it is a mistranslation and should read 'thou shalt not murder' is right, it is. But, getting beyond the semantics of the meaning, it makes no sense to condone the death penalty in light of that commandment. In fact one of the major anti-death penalty stances that execution is just state sanctioned murder and little more than vengeance wrapped up in a better package, something strongly frowned upon in the bible. It also seems to me that that holy tome its' self seems to waffle on the subject by in some parts condoning it (such as the eye for an eye bit) and in others forbidding it, hence the reason many can't agree on the topic. One would think, with all that is in that book about forgiveness and such, that would point to the direction away from executions and more towards forgiveness and rehabilitation.

Thou shalt not kill is not an absolute truth it is a commandment. If you believe in the ten commandments then it to you is rule to live by. Second what christians insist on the death penalty. I do not insist on it and i am christian

Thou shall not kill is in the 10 commandments, just like not coveting your neighbor's...well, anything. We have the death penalty because MAN created it within their own justice system. Not all Christians insist on it.

the christians of todays world have changed the commandment itself. proof, this is from the torah.

The Sixth Commandment is recorded in Exodus 20:13: “YOU SHALL NOT KILL.” The Hebrew word for “kill” is ratsach, but “murder” is a more accurate translation. This term means a willful, deliberate and malicious act, as opposed to an action resulting in accidental death. (God does not view accidental death as murder – see Deuteronomy 19:1-13).

and they have not changed this but they also have not totally fulfilled the first 2 commandments as well.

1st- The earth trembled as God began to speak. Moses later recorded, “And God spoke all these words, saying, I am the Lord your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME” (Ex. 20:1-3). This is the First Commandment

2nd- Exodus 20:4-6 records the Second Commandment. Here is God’s explicit directive: “YOU SHALL NOT MAKE UNTO YOU ANY GRAVEN IMAGE, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.”

God specifically defined the forbidden ways that were used to worship idols. He realized human nature’s tendency to justify loopholes around His instructions.

If you are going to quote the bible, then read more than one line!

Read Deuteronomy, what should be done with sons that do not obey their parents, males that sleep with other males, females that sleep with other females or if someone teaches other Gods.

Read the bible, not just quote what you have heard!

Too, it even tells how to conduct war!

Why do you erroneously limit death to Christians while there are some religions that kill the female because they say she shamed the male, others because she came outside with her hair bare?

What about all the male crap about the prostitute can be put to death but not the male!

Hypocrites, like your self are really a disservice to everyone with your false piety?

Why do you criticize the splinter in the eye of others, while you are blinded with the plank in yours?

There is a difference between premeditated murder and taking a life in the death penalty or in a war. Premeditated, which is what the Bible is referring to, means you plan to kill someone for no good reason. The death penalty is actually Biblically correct if they are executing someone who has murdered someone or committed rape/molested a child. The Bible says to send them to God for judgement.

So long as the Non Religious state does it, it's cool.

Make it a law that by NAME you must have 66%+1 vote to execute someone and everyone who votes name will be on that list, let's see what happens!
