I think we are. I mean, can we honestly count on anyone other than ourselves for sure? Like a wise woman once said... "You and I may not survive, but someone will. That's what's important."

I think we might be confusing what we mean by the term "save". Used in religious context, it means to save ourselves from hell, which we supposedly cannot do alone. The other form, which I believe you are using, is saving ourselves from the end of humankind as we know it. I think that we're plenty capable of saving ourselves from the predicaments that we're in as a society, if we'll only stand up and figure it out as human beings and not sheep.
But as for believing why God would save us, that's because most Christians simply believe "what it says in the Bible", which is hardly a reliable source of rational thought.

GOD is not going to save you! GOD gave you a will, left it up to you to live a moral life. GOD did not force people to neither believe in Him or to Love Him, too, of all things that we are free to pray for, prayer for the love of another will never be answered.
For GOD to do so would be to take away the free will of someone else!
How can you think of SAVE relative to this place? All life forms that come into this place, leave this place! Saved or Lost is after this place!
Where do you think that you came from? Where were you before
you came to this place? Do you not realize that the you is not that form that the world sees! You can lose your arms and legs, still YOU remain! We can give your body a different heart, still you remain!
Your eyes do not care that they cry, neither do your heart care about what you say you feel. You lips do not care about the smile. And when YOU leave this place, that what we see, your body will remain. Hopefully what leaves will not be lost. Maybe SAVED!

I think if we could save ourselves, we would have done so by now. With that in mind, we can never save ourselves ( a depressing thought). So we have to have hope that something greater than we are (God) will save us from ourselves. We're only human. Fallible. Corrupt. Imperfect in every way.

I think when they refer to "Save us" means that God saves us from all the evil in the world. We are revealed lies, protected from the temptations of the world, and most importantly, saved from the wrath that will come Judgement Day. If your dad would punish you for stealing or creating a drastic lie, you would regret it later and eventually learn from your mistakes. Now think that when God sees what you've done on Earth, would you want to be punished by God??
P.S. - I don't think we can save ourselves from that kind of punishment.

No one is capable of saving themselves. We do it all with God's help whether we believe in it or not. Without God's help, we would surely fail. I am a Christian woman, and I believe 100% in the almighty power of God to work miracles, and to keep the world in working order. HE is the one who does this, not us mere mortals.

I think it has become evident that we can not "save ourselves". Politically we are rushing towards nuclear war (Iran has until Aug. 31 to "comply" with the nuclear ban imposed by the U.N. they have said they will deliver their "answer" on Aug 22nd).
If we manage to avert that many scientists agree that global warming is on a run away path and is unstoppable now without immediate severe reduction of CO2 output (you gonna stop driving and turn off all the appliances? we gonna stop all industry and shipping? see anybody seriously working on alternate power?).
Only God can save us. The Golden Age is very near. Pray for forgiveness and guidance and worship only God. Do not place false hopes in prophets or humans to deliver salvation, only your good works can do that through the mercy of God. You will be judged by all of your steps on the right path and all of your steps outside of it. you must pray for guidance to try to keep your steps on the right path and forgiveness for each step outside of it. Make all of your steps each day on the right path.

Taking a look at our world -- provides strong evidence that human beings are not capable of saving ourselves.

He's the God. no questions 'bout it. He can do everything he want. He is just and fair.
People can save one's self because of the help and guidance of God. without Him life would be meaningless like those hu don't believe in Him.

Dude, we can't
look at the Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Floods and all.
It was all of god's work so he could show us that we need to believe in him that no other savior than him and we can't save our selves.
Thx for letting me express what I think and for the points..
