In Spanish and colloquially we call this material "unicel"... it's a white termic material used for many things... fake snow... packing stuff that needs to be handled with care... it contaminates the environment... it's also used to make one-use plates and glasses.

It's expanded polystyrene - Styrofoam is just one of the brandnames for it.

The 'expanded' part is important too. Normal Polystyrene weighs over a ton per cubic meter, so would be no good for filling your bean bags. A common use for normal PS is the clear front you find on CD cases.

In British English it's polystyrene. In American English it's styrofoam.
