We moved to USA from UK a year ago.Our plan was to find a job and good house, maybe start to study somewhere. We had enough money for everything. For 9 years my husband tried to save that money.9 years he was in Navy. Then, when we moved to here we found out he had a cancer.Means, need treatment,no time for job,no physicly energy for anything like that.I was with him in hospital and everywhere all the time.At home after chemoteraphy, everywhere.I cant find any job,coz just got here, and learn english better. We dont have any insuranse, ofcourse. We have to pay about 40 000 $ for surgeries and treatment. But these people call all the time from hospitals and remind us to pay a checks.Dont they understand that person cant work right after surgery and chemo? Not having any insuranse, any job. ANYBODY knows here any way to get a job,by looking for it online?Soon, hopefully,he will feel better and can start working. He has a good education. But we dont see anyway to find a job in USA.How people find a jobs?

Well one thing is that don't worry about the hospital they can't do anything to you but tell you to pay but tell them to quick calling in a nice manner and tell them to send by mail and then soon they will stop sending you the mail and it will just be on your credit so don't really worry about the hospital. To get a job depends on where you live cause if you live in a city good luck finding a job but if you got a good education you could get a decent job with good pay but again depends on where you live. So most of what I have read from the other people that have answered you have said the truth and you should listen to all of them but if we all that have answered you knew what state you lived in we could tell you were to get a good job but don't give out detailed information tho. But just say the state and if you live in a city or out in the country. And that would be helpful for some of the people that have been helping you ok well I hope this helped.

In the meantime while looking for work, ask the hospitals for a form to show your income vs. the amount you owe. If the person you talk to won't provide it, ask to speak with a supervisor and say, "I understand there is a form I can fill out to show my income and to show how much I can afford to pay, if anything." Please send me the form and I will fill it out and send it back to you right away." Write down the person's name with whom you spoke with and get a fax number and mailing address for future reference. Find a Kinko's to fax back the form or mail the original ASAP.

To find work, you will NEED A RESUME! Use MS Word to type up a resume. You must have one to show work experience, background, etc. Pick up the local newspaper or go to the following websites:

www.careerbuilder.com
www.monster.com

These website are very popular. However, they can only get your resume to the person or company hiring. It doesn't guarantee you'll even get an interview.

Be sure to include a cover letter with your resume and make it professional. Try the legal field as a receptionist or file clerk. These jobs are good to start out with and can lead to promotions within a company. Basically, you might have to start at "the bottom" just to show you have good work ethics and can be punctual and relied upon.

I totally understand your situation. I recently had a baby and had complications and had to have an unexpected surgery afterward. I racked up $80,000 in doctor, lab and hospital bills and my insurance only covered a percentage and I had to pay the rest. I know the hospitals have vicious billing collectors who go by the book. Remember, ASK FOR THE FORM MENTIONED ABOVE that EVERY HOSPITAL HAS to show you either are unable to pay or have special income circumstances to show you can only pay a certain amount on a monthly basis. Be sure to follow through on filling out the information on the form or the hospitals will send you to collection and your credit and anything you own could be in jeopardy.

Good luck. You'll need it. Best wishes.

Try the local unemployment agency, temporary services, local newspapers. You will eventually find some kind of job. If all else fails start going to businesses and asking if they are hiring for anything. You never know they might need someone at the time. Hope things get better for you and your husband. Don't give up.

This is a job site. You will have to follow the directions. Also yahoo has a job site.
Where ever you live should have a job site on line.
Look around the net and good luck.
We don't have free health care in this country which is sad.

Whoa, sorry. Try Craigslist.org, search the city closest to you. Search "jobs" in Yahoo, MSN, Google, or Lycos search engines and they will lead you to links to online newspapers, classifieds, etc. Good luck. Until then, as hard as it might be, you might want to stop going to the doctor. Either that, or your husband needs to understand that you can't be in the hospital with him all the time. Either way, a large sacrifice needs to be made for you two to be alright here.

Look in your local paper . Also call your local highschool and find out if they offer English as a second language courses for adults. Good luck! Also, does your husband have VA Benefits? He might want to look into those.

THREE CHOICES-
1- MOVE BACK TO THE UK AND TELL THE HOSPITAL TO STUFF IT!!!
2- GET SAVED, PAY THE HOSPITAL ONLY WHAT YOU CAN, AND DONT WORRY ABOUT IT, AND WRITE THEM A LETTER TELLING THEM NOT TO CALL YOU THAT YOU ONLY WANT TO CORRESPOND BY MAIL, AND SEND THE LETTER BY CERTIFIED MAIL. By law (federal law) they have to stop calling you, ( http://www.ftc.gov )
3- Pay what you can, get saved (www.kcm.org) If they take you to court tell the judge you can only pay so much, if he refuses to be good to you, sneak out of the usa, and go back to the uk.

It is easier if you can relocate to another city. Certain jobs are in demand only in certain cities. Do an Internet searching for jobs in all 50 states. I hope this is an option for you.
