Yep - it was pretty amazing. I was 8 years old the year he won the triple crown. My dad saw Seabiscuit run in person back in the 30s.

...Secretariat is blazing along! The first three-quarters of a mile in 1:09 and four fifths. Secretariat is widening now! He is moving like a TREMENDOUS machine! Secretariat by 12, Secretariat by 14 lengths on the turn! Sham is dropping back. It looks like they'll catch him today, as My Gallant and Twice a Prince are both coming up to him now. But Secretariat is all alone! He's out there almost a 16th of a mile away from the rest of the horses! Secretariat is in a position that seems impossible to catch. He's into the stretch. Secretariat leads this field by 18 lengths, and now Twice a Prince has taken second and My Gallant has moved back to third. They're in the stretch. Secretariat has opened a 22-length lead! He is going to be the Triple Crown winner! Here comes Secretariat to the wire. An unbelievable, an amazing performance! He hits the finish 25 lengths in front!"

Secretariat was the greatest.I was 20 when he made a mockery of The Belmont Stakes.I read accounts after the race of people in the stands who had followed racing for 40-50 years weeping openly as he made the turn into the home stretch because they simply could not deal with what they were seeing and or because they were seeing live something they hoped for but never really thought they would ever see. In fact i believe that the announcer who called the race was also nearly overcome by emotion.I hope this helps!!!

Any other year Sham would have been a standout.
I saw the live broadcasts and saw Secretariat for real. The word awesome is sometimes overused but it fit him.

Many of the horses that year have been overlooked as failures. Sham. Mr Prospector. Horses that definitely made their names known after retirement. And I've handled sons and daughters of some of those who ran behind him - good horses.

Secretariat was a treasure. He has his place in history but for many will never be forgotten.

certain, there'll continuously be freaks. Over the following in aus I do trust we've had atleast 2 freaks contained in the previous 50 - 60 years. Atleast Phar Lap and Makybe Diva. both have adnormally tremendous heart and lungs. u . s . of america will be diverse. Alot of horses the following in Aus race inbetween 20-50 situations. Its purely the way American's run. frequently our horses race for 3 or extra seasons. issues do favor to regulate and that i'm not particular about over there yet issues are replacing over the following. we would have a lot less and a lot less freaks yet we receives them. Inbreeding is growing a prolem, I even ought to come across a stallion for 3 mares for next season. One mare has a uncommon pedigree and espresso funds so it really is surely not not ordinary. yet another mare is a sprinter and no situation searching a stallion. the different mare is a stayer, and it really is difficult to come across a good staying stallion to flow with this mare via her pedigree. yet that all and dissimilar has to do with tendencies.

No not live. I do get a kick out of the recounts of the Belmont Stakes. A great race , no doubt. Its never mentioned that he beat 4 worn down horses. The greatest Belmont vs the weakest field ever.

I have seen video of the great one, and as far as I know thats pretty darn good. If you were live at the track it would be like saying "I saw A.J.Foyt win the Indy 500" would you have a better live experience than on tv?

I wish I could have seen him.on the track, my fathersaw him at Aqueduct as a two-year old breack his maiden, then was "enamored" as another respondant said grown men overwhelmed at seeing the impossible,as his career advanced into the strastosphere. My father has the program and it will go with him when he goes.(He knew he would be great, but not at that NY track that day, great yes , the best ever ,not then). For those that have come to Sec recently, i suggest the original ESPN video @1994 or there whereabouts, or just watch the Belmont,. Not in my lifetime, not such a beautiful destroyer, his records (Preakness rightfully included) will forever stand. We witnessed greatness. What more canwe ask. To conclude my father flew to Canada ro see the Woodbine and i went to see him personaally later at stud in 1994. Like father, like daughter both acknowledging the greatness of Secretariat. Also, I'm preaching to the choir. To those coming to Big Red, he has soo many web sites/fan sites, just check out any and you will see what captivated a 6-7 year old girl, her father, his brothers their fathers and anyone that loves the sport of Kings. Also, I will be off this site soon, but so as it will, to "die schwarze" who answer -ed about witnessing Sec win the Belmont withMr. Anderson's immortal call,(verbatim)nothing that you can comprehend, appreciate, respect or attempt to disrespect, only yourself, well be proud we have noticed you and on behalf of SECRETARIAT, his father, Bold Ruler, his mother Somethingroyal my father, a NY Yankee(Triple-A) farm team, drafted at 17 out of high schoool, , i dont't know he is inthe minor legue Hall of Fame, as a slugger Batted clean up (the korean war interrupted his career), he could have been good, No Sec, but atheletes are atheletes, and obviously you are not. I shall continue and, bear in mind, baseball bores me, on behalf of my uncles, their fathers, their wives that understood that something great was happening, myself, and now i speakl without authorization on behalf of Miss Peeney Tweedey, Sir Lucian Lurian, Ron Turcotte, Eddie Maple, Eddie Sweet and the entire state of Kentucky(I can speak heree because I am a Sotherner) although, daddy is a out of Brookllynn, and i live here tri-state) and am proud of New York, I was in there on that day. So from all of us,(I have no authority nor do claim any personal comments/statements attributrds towards?regarding of in tge living contractual or the deceased or the great state of Kentucky or the borough of Brooklynn, I speak herein an an invidual on a public forum regarding a historical figure, true Frau schwarzc, Sec is beyond copyright, he is in the public domains'. To RecP on behalf of myself, my relatives, the borough of Brooklynn, Miss Tweedey, Sir Lurian , Ron Turcotte, Eddie Maple, Eddie Sweet, Bold Ruler, Somethingroyal, the Great state of Kentucky and all those that saw something greatin our lifetime and of course, the Horse SECRETARIAT,

And we don't care uf don't have a life, except don not ride his coattails, please announce yourselfat any track ,OTB, and please the great State of Kentucky will encourge your coming to do whatever. Give us a heads' up, I will ensure a fitting welCOME.
FRAU SCHWARZE,
HEIL, i'M catholic that means hail> as IN HAIL MARY!!!
so on behalf of SECRETARIAT,
Heil, die schwarzc

with fortitude,
al l of us

P.S. thanks for that coin toss, a lady should have owned him, that's just me Mr. Whitney would not have shared him as she did , LYA, Lotita stasha
