Do not play against people. Play your cards how you want to play them. I agree with having to know who is at your table in terms of loose or tight but don't make the whole night about who does what when. If you don't/can't read people and thier actions, especially the people who wear big hats, sunglasses, and an ipod, then don't worry about it. They are there to play a mind game with you. If you get cards you get cards, if you don't you don't. I play in tourny's atleast two times a week... not on-line, if you know what your cards are then the rest will follow suit.

How many hours do you have? It is all situations, a book can tell you in general terms on how to play a hand but experience is the key. The more hands and situations you see the better you get. Some basic questions you need to ask yourself at the table are, How big is my stack? What are the blinds at? Is the game loose or tight? What position am i in and what position is he in, also does he like to bluff a lot or does he only play strong hands? Knowing what the other player is going to do before he does it gives you the upper-hand. Knowing the pot odds and what hands to play from what positions is key. There is a saying in poker that we play the people and not the cards. If i see two (rocks) tight players in the blind i will often time steal because i know they will not call without a good hand, and on the other foot if i know they are wild maniacs then i wouldn't try to steal from them. My favorite strategy book is by Ken Warren, it's called winning low limit hold 'em.

A lifelong no-one-answer question. It always depends on your opponents. You should practise alot, check out the sites on strategy, just google poker strategy, and memorise which combinations you raise bet fold on and take some time to learn how to read people....Other than that it is all pretty much luck.
I do however play poker with a mate and two new people every week. We rig the decks and are really good at it.......now THAT is a way to win more than you lose although things can always go wrong

Ignore these people who don't want to take risks in life. lol
Practice, study, and more practice. That's all I can say. The "poker bible" is the Super/System by the Babe Ruth/Michael Jordan/Wayne Gretzkey (you get the point) of poker, Doyle Brunson. If you're that interested in learning how to win, I definitely recommend this book alongside playing on the play money servers first and then moving up to real money.
On a side note, it took me over a year to move up from play money to real money so take your time and good luck.

Treat poker as a religion. Study and practise. 'Worship' the poker gods each day. LIVE WELL AND IN BALANCE -- there is more to life than poker.
When you're ready to become 'one' with the poker gods, stop by the Church of Texas Holdem. We need disciples like you.

I play conservative and bluff with discretion.
You should play your good hands and try not to bet the bank on any hand. The easiest way to lose is by thinking you have a good hand and forcing large bets, only to find out someone else has a great hand.
Slowly but surely you'll build your chip count.

You need to find as many freerolls and bonuses as you can. Anytime you can profit from a tournament or bonus you should do it. Even if you only stand to win a couple bucks, you get the pleasure of playing and no risk at all to get that money. Take advantage of bonuses. You'll be trying to break even and collect on your bonus.

I like to play aggressively. It tends to scare other players.
