How can a 16 yr. old get emancipated in new york?
need immediate info on Emancipation from a parent. I am 16 years old residing in Manhattan, Ny. I would like to become emancipated from my mom, because there are a lot of family issues, and I feel that I can be on my own. I would like to get a job, still go to school, and there would be somewhere for me to stay.
Me and my mom dont get along most of the time. She doesn't let me spend time with my father. Sometimes I only spend 3 hrs with him a week. He just opened me up a bank account, she restricted my access to it. We also have gotten into a physical fight, and I called acs.
I would like to know what I have to do to become Emancipated? Please help

And if you want my opinion, NY is way too expensive of a city to be on your own at the age of 16.

Milk the free rent while you can, because the real world is a bit*h.

if you emancipate yourself only from your mom i think the state might give you the option to live with your father which is something I would recommend, it's understandable that you don't wanna live with an abusive parent but try and live with the other or a grandparents aunt uncle older cousin, before your on your own it's going to be very hard to find a job that will let you work enough to make rent. I live in Wisconsin so i don't know it much about the laws in NY. But good luck Hun!

If your dad will let you stay with him then you don't need to be emancipated. From the time you turn like 13 you can say who you want to stay with and who gets custody of you. I am sorry but it shows on this website that there is no emancipation in this state. Here is the link

Two years and you will be eighteen. That's not
long at all. So wait. Maybe you can have a part
time job to save money, and keep busy.
Fighting with your Mother is NOT GOOD, and
it looks bad on paper.
