My sis and I are going to see the Phantom of the Opera on an afternoon showing, and we've never gone to see a musical before. What kind of outfits(s) would be appropriate?

depends on the theatre. you may want to check if they have a dress code. I live in chicago and go fairly often. typically i will wear slacks and a nice button down shirt. i have worn some less casual like dockers and a sweater, depending on what theartre i go to. i have seen people go in jeans or shorts etc. and dont think it is appropriate.

Theatre Wear

It really depends on what type of theater you will be attending. Phantom is just a GREAT show, and it's one that is fun to dress up a little to see...my suggestion would be for you and your sister to figure out what you're comfy sitting in for a couple hours - remember that theaters CAN get warm, but taking a sweater/coat just in case is a good idea - and see if dressing up a bit is something you'd feel comfy with.

Theater's an experience in itself - including what the audience is wearing. If you can't decide, you can call the theater or go and watch the people attending another afternoon showing to see what they wear and base your outfit off of that.

But...as long as it's decent, you should be fine. Theater's a blast. Have fun! Be comfy! ENJOY THE SHOW! =)

Here's where that little black dress comes in handy.
When I am in doubt, I wear black pants, and dress it up with a fancy blouse and find some great jewelry to wear. Can't go wrong with black, it is always dressy. And since "Phantom" has a mysterious theme, it is appropriate.
I just bought some dressy black slacks, a summer weight black short sleeved sweater with little cables down the front. I have some antique-gold colored bead jewelry, with dangle earrings. I wore black dressy shoes, and black hose. Everything was the same shade of black. I looked slender, and felt dresed up.
Choose a purse that would dress the outfit up or down, the little black purse is always right.

Dress Code for the theatre is neat casual. Anything apart from denim and slacks, and jumpers is good. Also cross out runners or thongs etc.

What I would wear? I MEDIUM length skirt, little summery heels, lacy top, or button up top, maybe ablue or red. Something that will look elligant. I'd wear my hair in loose curls, half up and gorgeous diamente earrings.

Hope this helps! :D Oh, and perfect makeup, accentuate the eyes with sparkles!

It might depend a little on your city, but I'd say at least don't wear jeans. Nice slacks, skirts or more dressy would be fine too. I admit that I am not a frequent theatre goer, but when I have attended, people have worn a wide variety of clothing styles. Have fun.

Usually people dress up a little bit when they go to the theatre. Casual clothes are usually not appropriate, and yet you don't need to dress really formal either. Something in between is nice.

You will find people dressed in formal attire and people dressed in jeans and t-shirts (my husband and I went to see it a month or so ago for an evening showing). A nice skirt and top should be fine. Nicer than casual, but I should think nothing fancy for a matinee.

Wear something that would work for a date as well as to church. If you can't visualize that, just ask the manager of the Building running the show. Believe you me, he would rather tell you than have you hate it there and never come back.

Try to dress up a little bit and put your hair up..maybe in a clip. Um, a nice black chiffon dress or maybe even red would be nice to wear.
