Probably not, but it might help.
Religion has ALWAYS been the number one cause of death, and its dissapearence might help, but it wouldn't get rid of violence entirely.
People fight over differences, whether it be racial, cultural, economic, or religious. So, people would find other things to fight over.

Who will ban and where? Banning is an easy word in India which was a country under foreign rule for centuries. The local Hindus are in the habit of being oppressed by the rulers in power. It was in the past, and still no different at present. The govt. can not do anything to control the Muslim voters. They have not been able to ban Talaq, polygamy, use of arms during festivals, misuse of Loud Microphones near Hospitals and High Courts though there is a law. Even after it became an independent state the Hindu people are banned from doing many things. Here the majority are tuned to be meek due to slavish past. But in Western countries and the Islamic countries the government can not touch the religious aspect of the general public.

This can NEVER work. The Communists tried it in Russia after the Red Revolution. On the surface it appeared to have worked. But after Glasnost & Prestroika, it was found that Muslim Soviets had never given up Islam . The USSR broke up, & Islamic states like Kazakistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan emerged, reiterating forcefully that Islam can not be dominated or banished from the minds of its followers. China is also facing this problem in Sinkiang.

Let us first understand what religion is. Religion is nothing but a faith. A faith in which we believe will give us happiness, release us from all the miseries in he world and ultimately go to heaven.
Instead of having faith people are becoming fanatics. What everyone must understand is that all religions teach us non-violence. But, to spread its faith we are using violence. People are killing each other because they do not belong to their sect or faith. This is not a religion which is taught to us.
Religion has taught us so many things which our parents are unable to teach us or understand.
Banning is no answer. All religions teach us tolerance towards all human beings. Its we who churn out different meanings and interpret them in our own way.

Nope. People fight in wars because it is sadly our nature. In fact, many of the mainstream religions have done much to oppose war and promote peace.
One person answerd that "religion has ALWAYS been the number one cause of death." That's just a mis-informed and bigoted answer. Oh, yeah there have been some deaths caused by religion to be sure, but there have been far, far, far more caused by the lack of religion.

you are absolutely correct and I am 100% agree with your view but who will bell the cat?
If you want to ban religious activity, you have to ban for all religion but the political leaders have blind faith of their own on religious activity, so they will never come forward to ban religious activity. Apart from this they have vested interest to get undue profit from the belief of religious thought and culture.
Very good and deep rooted question

very good question! not all that we dream come true!! then the meaning of prayer shall not be available. so where religion ends, spirituality begins and religion divides, spirituality unites. so please search at the core of your heart this question and this search has been done for years by so many, this is a myth though the answer is universal brotherhood, it is like so many viruses mooting out when so many software is booming! so for every holy spirit two devils are sprouting. it is the day of the balancing or maha pralaya to take care! meanwhile you as an individual concentrate on your heart and search within! best wishes

Religion is the excuse. The reason is ignorance and fear. Banning religion will not change that, only tolerance will. Unfortunately, it is in a severe shortage these days.
