What do I do about being smart?

Ok at my school by lots of people I am considered to be smart. I hate being considered a nerd. The truth of the matter is though that I am one. I love to read and do homework. I also love to answer teachers questions in class. I dont want to be a nerd but I don't want my grades to drop. What do I do?

Know that the others will be working for you. Be curious, imbed yourself in things that interest you, hang out with other nerds; teach them the benefits of being social.

Us nerds are the successful adults with a better sense of identity. You go around worrying abour what other people think and you're sacrificing a part of yourself, your self-respect, and making yourself subordinate to people you don't even know.

I was/am a nerd. I had no friends in middle school, and dumbed myself down for people in high school: It wasn;t worth it. I went to science fiction conventions alone when I was 18. I now run my own business and have hundreds of friends from the goth & sci fi crowd; my beloved boyfriend is a nerd(british) and he's adorable, brilliant, considerate, and HAWT.
There's a whole world of people out there waiting for you to be their queen.

Don't worry so much about what other people think of you, or what label they give you. Which, I know can be a lot easier said than done.

You might want to consider taking on some new interests, so that along with your intelligence there are other things that people will know about you. Athletics, music, art, planning committees or other clubs.

Regardless of whether you're a 'nerd' or not, there will always be people that don't like you because of personality conflict, envy or any other host of reasons, and inevitably you'll probably end up with one label or another. I guess what I'm trying to say is just do what you enjoy doing and make yourself happy first. =)

Be yourself, I have been there and done that. In high school some of the main people who was calling me a nerd was nerds themselves and ended up graduating with honors. with that said keep on answering questions in class because after high school it don't matter if you were a nerd or not.

You should be a "secret nerd". Keep your grades to yourself. Read at home. Answer one question in class per day so that no person hears you answer two questions, but you can still get your enjoyment out of answering questions.

If you really dont want to be called nerd,I advice you to do the ff:
1) Try to have fun with those people who calls you that your nerd..
2) Help them in studying their lessons so that when there is a recitation, they could answer too..

Not sure what grade you're in, but many people dislike their "labels" when they're in school. You may think that people who are considered "cool" are happy, but they have just as many doubts about themselves as you do. Remember, it's the "nerds" who end up being CEOs of companies like Microsoft!!

Just be Yourself! I remember what it was like in high school and about the labels, cliques, groups and the pain of not fitting in but don't betray your own talents for the sake of the Jerkoff so-called "in-crowds" and "cool people"!!!!!

I will let you in on a little secret. The DAY you graduate from high school, All those cliques and groups and their worthless opinions and labels won't add up to an ounce of Dehydrated SH-IT!!!!!!!
