i haven't been running at all lately, only walking for 30-45 minutes every day and weightlifting for about 3 weeks or so. i can start training for the 5k on or after august 30, which gives me about a month. i'd like to do it in under 30 minutes, is it possible to do so between now and then? i am a 20-year-old female, if that matters. any tips would be appreciated...

Not to be crude, but how much do you weigh? I think if you have been lifting weights you are in reasonably good shape. If you are 20, you should be good to go. About 10 minutes a mile for 3.2 miles? Freaking cake, again assuming you are in reasonably good shape. With a month of training? No prob..

you have to do gradual training.. if you try too hard, too fast, you'd most likely sustain physical injury.

build up your distances bit by bit.. start off with maybe 2km at an average pace.. and build it up to 5km. you can do this maybe in 2-3 weeks.

then in the final 1-2 weeks, once you've gotten used to running that 5km distance, work on your speed.
