i am sick of all the people on here thinking that all athiests are completly unintelligent. just because we dont agree with your beliefs doesnt mean that our beliefs are wrong. how do you know yours are right? and why do you believe that because we dont believe in an afterlife or a god that we have no morals or self respect? if you sin, you just go to confession and are forgiven, where if athiests do something that is wrong, we actually have feelings of regret (go to dictionary.com if this isnt in your vocabulary) and have to take steps to overcome that. please point out exactly to me where we are immoral? and tell me where you get off calling us intelligent?

zelda, agnostic does not mean that you believe in god. agnostic means that you are unsure weather there is or isnt a god, and afterlife, etc.

Oh-oh... this is gonna start a big one. But girlfriend, I completely agree with you. The real bottom line is, certain religions believe that God is the only one that has the power to judge people. So why are his followers judging US? Maybe we chose to be more educated in many different religions and decided on our own belief... in this case athieism. There is no need to try to convice someone to believe in what you believe... all we ask is to let us be, because we let YOU be.

I'm an agnostic, which means I believe in God, but it is just a belief, not proven fact that God exists. I believe in karma. I don't believe we can know anything more about it than that. The rest is just your personal beliefs, feelings and intuitions. I don't think any of you can prove that there is or isn't a God, so your arguments don't seem honest to me when you state categorically that you know what the truth is. It's each person's private business, so as long as you don't try to stuff your set of beliefs down my throat, I can respect that.
I also believe that the moral burden is greater on atheists and agnostics, since we can't go confess to a priest or accept Jesus as savior and instantly be cleansed of all our sins. We need to work things out in the real world, throughout our whole lives. There are no easy answers and we are thinking about our morals and responsibilities all the time, if we are good people.
Furthermore, agnostics and atheists also have a chance to "balance the books" morally by being good decent people.

People have misconception about what they don't understand. It goes both ways. the reason most Christa ins or So-called Christians try and convert Atheists, is because they believe they are doing them a favor and it is the right thing to do. unfortunately most think they have the right to judge in the process, they do not. It is not our place to judge. To be honest, I don't know where I am going when I die who am I to tell you where you are. I can only tell what I hope is true. I have met some Atheist with better morals then some So-called Christians. There is good and bad, Intelligent and not in every group. There has to be we are human. People tend to think that whatever group the are a part of is better then the one they are not.
If you couldn't tell I consider myself a Christian and I do agree with you.

I do not think Atheists are unintelligent. I am a Christian and have been for many years. You are entitled to your beliefs and I am entitled to mine. I did not call you immoral. As far as if we sin we just go to confession, I think you are referring to Catholics. I am a non-denominational Christian. I do pray for my sins but that does not mean we don't feel any remorse (go to dictionary.com if that isn't in your vocabulary). I do not have a problem with Atheists, I do have a problem with Atheists who are rude. Going by this question and one of your previous questions you answered you are rude. I will pray for you, even though you don't want me to. Take care. God Bless.

People who believe have a deep psychological need for their faith. A lot of them feel really threatened at the idea that some people can get along fine without the same kind of faith. Many get defensive and just lash out. And remember there are hundreds of religions in this world, most people believe that their faith is the right one. Nobody can prove that any religion is right or wrong.

What is with all the venting tonight???? Thank heavens this isnt a chat room! Like I told the christian chick that was ranting....live and let live hun. When it comes down to it, what I believe should not affect you in any way shape or form. (incidently....I am a very openminded student of all religious philosophies...an eclectic so to speak, but I claim the title of pagan) Why should someone elses opinion matter? If you are strong in your beliefs, simply shake your head at the naivete of the uneducated and go on. After all, the very young rarely do as they are told.

Namaste

I agree with everything you said. But when people answer like the first person who answered this question, it shows how unintelligent they are. If there really is a God, would he want people to act like that? I don't think so.

I'm with you!!!

It's really disturbing when Christian Americans demand to know how non christians could possibly know wrong from right. If you don't believe in God what keeps you from stealing and murdering?

It begs the question, if no one had programmed you to believe in God do you really think you would behave criminally as a result?

that last sentence is a doozy! Dear poster please read your last sentence very closely.

Responding to your comments: I never said anybody was unintelligent. I'm sorry you feel insulted. I never implied you don't feel regret or remorse. You, however DID imply that I do not. I can assure you I DO feel sadness and remorse. When I screw up, my Lord does one of two things. If he knows I'm sorry, then he gives me an opportunity to do something good to make up for it. And I'm greatful for that. If He knows I'm not sorry, then He punishes me. That's just a pattern I've noticed. I could be wrong. Anyway, I don't think you're dumb, and I don't think you're a bad person. EACH of us matters to God. I'm sorry you feel like you're being attacked. . . . of course I know how that feels don't I.

Good luck to you, my friend.

I agree with you on this one. It shames me that fellow Christians are so blunt and rude to atheists. In my humble opinion, you deserve just as much respect as the next person. Then again, you must also concede that you have fellow atheists who do the same to us.

Openmindedness is the key to any chance of respect. Keep at it. I will too. =)
