All birds needs fruits and veggies and a healthy diet, but I understood the question to be specifically about peaches, so I will do my best to answer.

Peaches are not unhealthy for a bird at all - except the pit, you don't have the cut the peaches up - except to halve it for them so they don't get the pit. They love to 'dig around' and sink their beaks into things, and whenever you have a 'question' about should I cut this up, skin that.. etc.. ask yourself How would they eat that in the wild? Now make no mistake, wash the fruits and veggies etc.. because in the wild they have no fertilizers, or pesticides to wash off.. but generally, I give my kids washed up satsuma's whole so they can eat a bit of the skin IF they want (there is nutrition there) and forage and peel and work on their satsuma the way they want!

Fruits are the LEAST of what they should be getting though as far as 'the fruit/veggie' combo. They should have their bean mix (soaked 15 bean soup mix.. soaked and cooked til the kidney bean can be pinched between your thumb and first finger to break the skin on it) and add 2 Veggies and 1 Fruit.

I understand what you mean by having that 'addict' look.. as my Blue Fronted Amazon almost died right after I got him.. he was sick. He would only eat sunflower seeds.. and it turns out.. for birds at least (and MORE for Amazons) that Sunflower seeds contain a kind of narcotic property when metabolized by them. I don't believe it IS narcotic, but they get to the point they will not entertain ANY other food.. so I had to get him off Sunflower Seeds period. He got one or two about every 6 months and that was IT!

As for your peach habit eating bird. Good news is.. it's orange, which GENERALLY means it has good vitamin A (That is without looking it up and only a guess) and that means one of the better fruits, depending on your type of bird. African birds tend to need more Vitamin A than other parrots.

I would wean the bird down a bit on the peaches, just because, I believe that any ONE thing for anyone - person or bird or 4 legged critter - is just not that healthy. The idea would be to give the bird a bit less each day! Stats show that birds prefer fruit over veggies BIG - just like us, they love the sweetness and we have to remember, that in the wild, they would get a very short season of fruit season :) So try to introduce some other fruits and 'make it the same shape' you cut the peaches in, and try pears, or mango (another good A fruit), Kiwi (one of the healthiest fruits of all) and Star Fruit. Try to get the A also in the diet (if it's a body craving - birds know what they need - just like people do - it's just we stop listening and we TEACH our birds to stop listening to their bodies too) via veggies.. many more veggies loaded with A than fruits.. Carrots, YAMS are better than Sweet Potatoes because of the higher A content, Kale, the beans in the soak in cook also have A.. find out if it's the A they are craving or the 'sweetness' of the peaches themselves that they love. Is this canned fruit .. if so .. packed in water or syrup? If they are canned, I wouldn't feed that anymore and try to get the bird off ASAP.. start buying fresh to see if the bird liked fresh as much or if it was addicted to the syrup or canned process.

Anyway, these are just my observations.. I certainly wish you luck.. I do believe it is more important to find out if the bird likes it, NEEDS the Vitamin A or if they are addicted to the peach, the 'syrup' in the can or if it's fresh, just have a thing for that fruit. The easiest way to 'avoid the noise' is to wean down the quantity that you give, and try to get them down to 2 to 3 diced pieces a day.. and then give another fruit - and make sure they are EATING that other fruit.. or give the peaches AFTER the first fruit to be sure they get some. Hummmmm peach fetish.. that's cute :)

You didn't say what kind of parrot, but in general, hook-bills are omnivores and will eat anything. Fruits, nuts, meat, chicken and turkey bones, vegetables, stray cattle (just kidding), etc.

With certain exceptions (chocolate, avocado, alcohol, etc.) anything that you eat for a meal (not a junk food snack) is good enough for parrots.

Our parrots LOVE cheese, pasta, chicken bones, apples, peaches, carrots, breakfast cereal (with milk), eggs, ...

But they also get a good pelleted diet to make sure that they are getting everything they need. We have been happy with Kay Tee Exact, but any good domestic bird food (not mostly seeds or nuts like wild bird food) works well.

PS:
Before you get on birds for eating chicken or eggs, note that this does NOT make them cannibals. Are you a cannibal for eating a hamburger? No? But cows are mammals and you are a mammal!

Feeding the parrot with peaches is fine. But don't feed it everyday because like us, it also needs other kinds of fruits. There's no need for you to dice the peaches or any fruits. It can manage to eat any kinds of fruit.

YES!!! That is their natural diet in the wild.

Nuts, fruit and berries.

You're SUPPOSED to give them fruits, vegetables, berries and nuts.

They live longer as a result of a healthy diet.

She craves the peaches because her body is telling her, that is what she needs to eat.

Ask any pet store owner. They give the parrots fruit every day.

another good site to look on is the "definite guide to parrot training" they have lots of information on what to do and not what to do for parrots. # Never Feed Your Bird the Following # Alcohol: As in humans, alcohol causes liver disease and can be toxic to the point of death. # Avocado, including guacamole, is deadly to some birds. # Chocolate is toxic to many animals, birds included. .

I have an African Grey Parrot and i also feed him fruit, she loves it + it's good for them to have a balanced diet, just your normal sunflower seeds etc. that you get in the shops is not enough in vitamins , advised by the Vet.!!! Advocados is deadly for them.!!!Molly is spot on.!!!

Of course they eat it in the wild its better then giving the poor thing dry food alll day. It should get a chance to be spoiled sometimes but not too much because too much of anything is bad he might get sick so give em the peaches but a resonable amount

Awesome answers from some savy bird lovers :-D every pet bird needs fruit & veggies at the very least and a smaller portion of their diet being seed. I would just say take the pits out as they are poisoious.

I would think a parrot in the wild would eat such fruit, but I am not an expert.
