Yes, any form of cardiovascular activity, if done consistently, will reduce the amount of body fat on your body. Your body will lose fat in it's own sequence (usually what was put on first will go last), so it is impossible to "spot lose" fat on any part of your body. Weight training to tone the muscle under your fatty areas will help to make the area look firmer, but only cardio will get rid of the fat. Work your oblique abdominals aswell (side abs) and butt to help tone/lose inches around your "love handle" area.

Contrary to widely misguided belief, you can't "target" specific areas for fat loss with a particular exercise, whether it be aerobic or anaerobic (weight/resistance training). Running is of course a great way to lose weight (perhaps the best). But the weight/fat is going to come off gradually and slowly all over the body, not just from specific areas.

It's one way. There's definitely nothing wrong with running. But it should be done in addition to other weight loss strategies.

Cut back on unnecessary high calorie foods, and do simple aerobic excercizes too. Do something that will strech those sides.
