My daughter (in law) in 26 and my son is 33. Expecting their first child, after 4 years of marriage. I want to buy her some gifts...she is 4 months, that she would like to pamper herself. Like bath oils, stuff.....any suggestions would be great! Somethings that she would not buy for herself, nor my son.
No clothes yet.....or baby items.....Just for her....thank you for any answers.
I have three children..all adults now.....However, no-one thought of that...
I think some of us Mom's to be, would enjoy that.

Get her a day at a spa. Or maybe a foot massager. If you get her the spa, make it a mother-in-law/daughter day. Have fun, go to lunch/dinner, shop, spa, then home. Well, as much as she can do to stay comfortable. The spa can accommodate her usually.

As a grandmother-to-be, I have always purchased items for the baby before it was born: a crib, a bassinet, a monitor, a car seat to bring the baby home; diaper bag, etc. Then when the baby is born, I always take a gift basket to the hospital for the mother. I fill it with bath soaps, shower gels, candles, a pedicure set, some candies, gum, pretty slippers, a cozy robe, all items to help a new mother pamper herself and relax when she has a few moments. While we're waiting for the baby, I make several fitted crib sheets, a quilt, a pretty crocheted blanket, and a few soft toys.

I like the idea that you're going to pamper the mom-to-be before the birth--when she'll have more time to actually do the self-pampering. I suggest pregnancy massage gift certificates. I loved my pregnancy massages when I was pregnant. (You really do want to find someone with certification in pregnancy massage.) Also, a gift that always goes over well is a cold/hot pack for the shoulders. Here's a link:

As you may remember, the shoulders and neck may get an extra workout after the baby comes. New muscles get worked with the lifting and carrying of an infant (and car seat). Also, there's the added stress of motherhood, which may reveal itself in shoulder pain.

I'd also suggest pretty pajamas. (When you're pregant, sometimes you can't justify spending the money on something you'll grow out of in a few months.) Pretty pjs make you feel better than sweats and t-shirs. Get help from your son to find out what she likes.

Good for you being a thoughtful mother-in-law!

A gift certificate to the salon, to get some pampering done. Maybe a spa massage (they have them now for pregnant women) and/or a foot spa machine, because I remember how my feet were swollen the last month of pregnancy. Soft stuff like slippers and comfy Pj's. No bath oils, she shouldn't soak in a tub, it might give her an infection - and loads of comfort foods. A gift certicate to an ice cream parlor! Nothing's better than that!

A very beautiful mirror, one that sits on top of a dressing table. It's a nice thing to give because everyone likes staring at themselves, don't they? And it might help her to remember to try to take time out for herself when the baby's born.

Either that, or some credit with a local agency who sends cleaning women over for an hour a day or so. Heaven knows she'll probably need help with housework!

Give her your time (if baby is all ready born) and a gift certificate to a salon and or spa. Your time to baby sit, and the gift certificate to pamper herself with. Also get her a really good read like Secrets of the Baby Whisperer for her to read between now and the baby is born. It made my life easier and it saved me a lot of time using her methods. Time I used for Me, Myself, & I.

You are such a thoughtful mother-in-law!!! How sweet! I would suggest you go to Bath & Body Works or Victorias Secret...they have beautiful gift baskets ( or you can create your own)...that contain scented lotions, body oils, perfumes, scented soaps, scented candles, body sprays and shower gels. My favorite Vic. Secret one is Love Spell...and from Bath & Body works...it's juniper. However I'm sure you will find something appealing. Your daughter-in-law (and your son) are blessed to have a thoughtful mom like you! CONGRATULATIONS on your grandchild coming!

A nice robe, comfortable slippers (these are great for now and to take to the hospital later), pick out a couple scents of body wash and lotions for her so she can choose what suits her for the day. Candles, books, music and a bottle of sparkling cider are also nice. Certificates for free meals or house cleaning, laundry service or the sort. She may feel up to handling that now, but will welcome the chance to redeem them soon!

My mother in law bought a comfy nightgown and robe set from vanity fair so I would have something comfortable to wear after having the baby. I thought that was so sweet and thoughtful of her! My mom gives me pedicures once a month (especially in my third trimester when it's hard to even see your feet standing up) that is also sweet and it's nice to know that your swollen feet still look cute even when you can't see them!
