ROFLMAO!!!! You've got to be kidding me! Of course he was an actual person. That's why he's in history books and people write biography books on him. Remember that he was not a god and wasn't believed to be. In fact, you're not ALLOWED to worship him at all.

There are some doubts about this, primarily because so much of his teachings were handed down for several hundred years via oral traditions. (That's why so many of the principles are numbered: 4 noble truths, 8-fold path, etc. This made them easier to memorize).

Karen Armstrong's biography of Buddha attempts to take the Buddhist scriptures and cull out the cult writings in order to determine what could be determined was real about his life. There is probably as much proof from these writings that the Buddha did at one time walk the earth as there is evidence that Jesus walked the earth. In truth, the religious leader whose actual life is most fully documented is neither Jesus nor Buddha, but Muhammed.

There is no doubt at all that Sakyamuni Buddha was a real living person,with a genuine historical existence and a distinguished pedigree.He and many of his followers were highly literate and educated people.
The records are extensive and he had numerous famous relatives, who actively assisted in his activities for many years.

well real or not it doesnt matter, his teaching has inspired many people to do good things, that is important..
its same as moses, jesus and mohamad..
