The second I see someone write that way in a formal business document, I know something has gone too far.
Please continue to ensure the world does not fall into the hands of sarcastic and lazy internet chat code. I wouldn't trust my business or money with someone that couldn't even spell correctly.

Now teacher this is your first lesson, as you already stated, this is just for fun. This is not a classroom, and we are not your students. If you find a question, or answer, with text shorthand just ignore it. Nobody is forcing you to answer, unless your computer has a virus. If that is the case, you might want to check into getting a new computer.

You should have told them they will get a zero on whatever it is they put that stuff on. I know spelling can change for any language, over time, but the text messaging code is simply idiotic. I have enough trouble with college graduates who are unable to write a simple report. The first time I see text messaging code in something at work, I'll probably die of apoplexy.

Times are a changing go with it. I don't like it but if you are a middle school teacher I guess the teachers before you just let it slide, everyone wants to blame kids for this and that and you know what its the adults before them that were to lazy to teach them now all they ever hear are negative things.

I sympathize with you COMPLETELY. But as a teacher, you also understand that people of ALL AGES can be incredibly slow, lazy, and careless about EVERYTHING- let alone in their communication skills. SO, other than complain about it, and TRY to get the message across to your students, you're fighting an uphill battle (But listen; as least you're TRYING, & fighting the GOOD fight...- so you definately deserve an "A" for effort.). Keep up the good work.

They are lazy, or stupid.
I'm only 12 and type a thousand times better than some of the adults around here.
It's getting ridiculous.
You students write like that in class?
That would drive me crazy, trying to read all of that.

it depends on which context you are using it. if you are writing a formal white paper, you would be be using shorthand. however, if you were texting on a phone, it would be wiser to save time and use shorthand. Academically, i would say we should stick to the formal way.

sometimes we do not notice we hit the wrong key and sometimes we try to figure out how to spell the words correctly thinking spell check will help and it does not. I am a bad speller and would know the dpelling if i seen it but the spell check does not reconize it

I agree with you, I guess the abbreviations were meant to be cute or to aid in instant messaging but I think it is dumb. I also think that the abbreviations are too general. LOL- can mean to many things.
