All of the above answers are nonsense. Tile is put on ceilings all the time. Just use a good modified thinset like Versabond or Flexbond, both available at Home Depot. Mix to the consistency of peanut butter and it will stick just fine, you don't even need to hold it in place if the ceiling is not slanted. If you want good advice on tile, check out the forums on http://www.floorstransformed.com/

It's legal to have a tile ceiling in a shower stall or a steam bath, but not in any other room. Put it up with marine epoxy applied directly to marine plywood or treated structural lumber.
Otherwise don't try it. No way to make it safe, and there is no method your building code or inspector would approve. Just don't do it except in the shower and with proper structural materials and marine adhesive. Okay?

I've never seen ceramic tile on a ceiling.
The only thing I've seen is the drop-down acoustical type ceiling, or the plastered ceiling with a pattern in it.

Wow, that's pretty interesting. I guess with super duper super glue that you make sure really sticks, otherwise it might fall and that would n't be good at all. At all.

http://www.hgtv.com - room by room - write these people and ask..
http://www.christopherlowell.com/ - same here
I have seen it done on a few of the shows featured on http://www.hgtv.com - maybe type it in the search and see what comes up.. or even go to http://www.diynet.com
