I have a pulse of 80-90 per minute when resting or doing usual things. When I start doing cardio, it shoots up to 175 within 20 minutes. How do I get it down? I just started doing cardio again, other than that did kickboxing but was never aware that my pulse would go up like this.

You are not aerobically conditioned. You should reduce your exercise intensity so as not to exceed your target heart rate. See

to find out your target heart rate. As you continue exercising on a regular basis, your conditioning will improve, and it will take more effort to reach that rate. Eventually (maybe 6 - 8 weeks) you will be able to exercise at a high enough rate to burn more calories and improve muscles.

80 resting pulse is high but not extreme, expecially for a young person. After all, 70 is considered normal. As you get conditioned, your resting pulse rate will go down. Before I started my exercise program, my resting heart rate was over 90; now its is 65.

First, get a physical. 80 is too high for a resting heart rate. If you check out, then exercising will condition your heart rate, and it will slow down after time.

wow, that's fast. Try deep slow breathing. Also you can use a vagel menuver to slow down your heart beat by strainning as if you were having a bowl movement. Also rise your face with a cold cloth.

Does it stay rapid for long?

You should also consult your physican and tell him the situation.
