en kanne muthe nila paruda chellam ... oree oru vai thaan aiyayo illana poochandi vanthuduvaan!!! its whatever u r going to say affectionately; after all what does the child (i mean toddler)going to understand.... better call him by name so that he is more respectable atleast at this age!!!

Kuzhanthai - can be used to refer children from birth till 2 to 3 years. (in tamil script - குழந்தை)

Pillai, Pen Pillai - Boy and Girl child (till adolescence)

Both these terms can be used.
